A 36-year-old Texas husband and father of three was fatally shot in front of his wife after a softball-game dispute in Humble, leaving three others wounded as detectives pursue identified suspects.

Jarmon Mattix died in a parking lot Sunday night after a dispute at a softball game turned into gunfire. Four people were shot. Mattix, 36, was the only fatality. The other three victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to calls about a fight and gunfire shortly before 9:30 p.m. Officers found Mattix in the parking lot. He died at the scene.

Breitbart News reported that the shooting unfolded in front of Mattix’s wife. His sister and mother were there too.

His sister described the moment in plain terms.

"He shot my brother right in front of me and my mother."

The cause of the dispute remains unknown. No public account has explained what sparked the fight or who fired the fatal shots.

Sheriff’s office says suspects are identified

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said investigators already have people in their sights.

"Detectives have identified suspects involved in the shooting and are conducting follow-up interviews."

No arrests have been announced. No charges have been detailed. Firearm make and caliber have not been released. The other three victims have not been named, and neither have Mattix’s wife, sister, or mother.

What is clear is the human cost. Mattix leaves three children. His family watched him die after what began as a softball game in Humble, a Houston-area community where weekend sports are supposed to end with handshakes, not gunfire.

Local reporting tied to the New York Post and KPRC tracked the same core facts: four people hit, one dead at the scene, and a parking-lot recovery after calls about a fight and shots fired. The timeline stays short and brutal. Dispute. Gunfire. Four wounded. One father gone.

Detectives now move from identification to interviews. Families wait for names, charges, and a public account of why a game night ended in a homicide scene.

When a father of three can be shot dead in a parking lot after a softball dispute, the bare minimum response is swift arrests, clear charges, and a justice system that treats the victim’s family as the priority, not an afterthought.
