Hunter Biden's $LAPTOP meme coin collapses 99%, leaving 15,000 investors in the red

Hunter Biden posted a profanity-laced video admitting to a "f, k up" after his $LAPTOP cryptocurrency crashed within minutes of launch, wiping out roughly 80 percent of buyers while one mystery trader walked away with nearly a million dollars.

Biden appeared on X just after midnight Friday to address the implosion of his meme coin, a token tied to the infamous laptop scandal that dogged his family during the 2020 presidential campaign. In the video, he blamed an unnamed market maker for supplying only $5,000 in liquidity at launch, a paper-thin pool that sent the token price rocketing from $2.39 to $316 per token before it cratered almost immediately.

The result: more than 15,000 wallets ended up underwater, and the token's price has fallen 99 percent from its peak, according to blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps and crypto expert Joni Zhuleku of Altcoin Pro.

$5,000 in liquidity for a billion-token launch

Biden's account of what went wrong centers on a single claim: that the market maker assigned to provide liquidity at launch deposited just $5,000 into the trading pool. With a total supply of one billion tokens and demand Biden described as "through the roof," that razor-thin liquidity meant even small buy orders could move the price wildly. The New York Post reported the token spiked to $316 per coin, briefly giving the project an astronomical paper valuation, before collapsing.

Zhuleku, the co-founder and head of research at Altcoin Pro, told the Post that Biden's explanation was technically plausible. He compared the $LAPTOP pool to Bitcoin's deep markets, where a $10,000 purchase barely moves the price.

"The quoted price is just the price of what the last trade went through the pool. The last trade can be tiny and still move the price enormously if there's only five thousand dollars in there."

But Zhuleku was blunt about the outcome. The price is down 99 percent from its all-time high, he said, adding: "So I don't think they do have it under control." He summed up the situation in a single line: "The damage has been done, so there's really not much to control."

One mystery trader turned $250,000 into $1.18 million in minutes

While thousands of retail buyers were left holding near-worthless tokens, blockchain analysis firm Datavault AI identified one trader who did spectacularly well. That unidentified buyer turned roughly $250,000 into $1.18 million within minutes of launch, pocketing approximately $930,000 before transaction costs. The identity of that trader has not been disclosed.

On the other end of the ledger, Datavault AI found at least one buyer who put approximately $200,000 into $LAPTOP near its peak. After the crash, that position was worth roughly $2,000, a loss of more than 99 percent. An expert cited in earlier Post coverage described the mystery trader's windfall as "a classic sign of a crypto 'rug pull,'" a scheme in which insiders profit while ordinary buyers absorb catastrophic losses.

The pattern raises obvious questions. Biden has not identified the market maker, the mystery trader, or his unnamed partners in the project. He claims he and his partners are locked into a six-month holding period and have "not made a single dollar." Those claims remain unverified by any independent source.

Hunter Biden has a well-documented history of generating headlines with erratic public behavior, from unusual personal disclosures on podcasts to revelations about his family's private struggles.

Biden vows to 'make it right', but offers no specifics

In his late-night video, Biden insisted the project was not a celebrity cash grab. He claimed he spent six months building the coin and was involved in every step of its development.

"This isn't some bulls*** f, king celebrity token where I get on Twitter and say, 'Oh, I didn't know about this, and, you know, I'm really sorry.'"

He also declared he would stay with the project and pledged to make investors whole, though he offered no concrete plan for doing so.

"I am in this to the end 100%, and I promise you is that we're gonna make it right."

Biden acknowledged the failure was ultimately his responsibility, saying: "At the end of the day, it's my responsibility, and there was a f, k-up." He added that the situation was brought under control, but "not before the damage was done."

The vow to continue came even as the X account associated with Biden's crypto foundation was suspended on Wednesday, the same day trading began. Biden posted from his personal account that the foundation was not stepping away from $LAPTOP and was working to restore the suspended account. No explanation for the suspension was provided.

The broader Biden family has remained in the headlines for a range of personal and political controversies, including Hunter's disclosure of his father's health struggles and questions about official White House messaging on those matters.

Red flags surfaced before the first trade

Breitbart reported that 100 million tokens, 10 percent of the total supply, were distributed to market makers and an unknown address days before the public launch, raising manipulation concerns from the start. The largest single transfer, 14.5 million tokens, went to an unlabeled, unidentified address roughly two hours before trading opened. The coin debuted above $190 and crashed to $2.15 within its first hour, a drop of more than 98 percent.

Biden also reportedly used a YouTube broadcaster's subscriber email list to spam users with advertisements for the meme coin ahead of launch. On his Substack, he framed the token around the laptop scandal itself, writing: "So. The laptop. Here is what was on it. Twenty years of my life, or a version of it."

On X, Biden struck a more grandiose tone, declaring: "Fiat is a sham, the banking class is corrupt, decentralized digital currency and the blockchain are the inevitable future, and the incumbents will fight it to the death."

The laptop itself, of course, became a national flashpoint during the 2020 election, one that major institutions and intelligence officials worked to suppress. Declassified documents later revealed the extent of federal efforts to dismiss the laptop story as Russian disinformation, a narrative that shielded the Biden family from scrutiny at a critical political moment.

No regulator, no refund, no accountability

No government agency, regulatory body, or law enforcement entity has been reported as investigating the $LAPTOP launch or the mystery trader's windfall. Biden has not named the market maker he blames for the liquidity failure. He has not identified his partners. He has not explained what "make it right" means in practical terms for the 15,000-plus wallets now deep in the red.

What is known: the token launched with pre-distributed insider allocations, a skeletal liquidity pool, and a marketing push that included spamming a borrowed email list. Within an hour, retail buyers were gutted. Within days, the project's own social media account was suspended. And the man behind it all went on camera after midnight to blame someone else, while simultaneously insisting he was in charge the entire time.

Biden's personal history of chaotic public episodes, including revelations about his father visiting his drug house in a vice-presidential motorcade, has long raised questions about judgment and accountability within the Biden family.

Zhuleku's assessment may be the most honest summary anyone has offered. The price is down 99 percent. The damage is done. And the people left holding the bag are not named Biden.

When a man who spent years dodging accountability for his laptop now asks 15,000 strangers to trust him with their money, the result is about what you'd expect.
