Relatively speaking, endorsements do not move the scale in an election. They are more or less just a talking point for candidates.
However, now and again, something happens that can shake the scale a bit, and that is what just happened to Trump.
I think most people would agree the last organization that anyone would expect to endorse Trump for president is Black Lives Matter (BLM).
Democrats and the media have made out Trump to be a racist, attacking him at every opportunity on this front.
The media neglected virtually every program he put in place while president that benefited minority communities, not to mention record low minority unemployment when Trump was in office.
Yet, for some reason, Mark Fisher, the co-founder of BLM Rhode Island, has endorsed Trump for president.
This will open the eyes of many in the black community and minority communities as a whole.
It is not exactly a secret that Democrats have feasted on the minority vote for decades in this country. They have done so without really delivering anything to these communities.
If you look around the country, in just about every major city that Democrats run, violent crime is up, as is homelessness.
San Francisco is a perfect example of a city that thrived, as well as being a top tourist destination, that now has businesses folding up due to these problems.
That seems to be at the heart of why Fisher is looking to Trump for change. He stated:
"It's the duplicity of the Democrats, the hypocrisy. We're not stupid. The brothers are not stupid. We understand when someone's for us and when someone is not, and it's obvious that the Democratic Party is not for us."
"The policies actually strike at the heart of the Black family and the nuclear family."
We can go back to the crime bill that was passed during the Clinton administration, legislation that Joe Biden helped write, that is cited for being responsible for so many minorities being put in jail, leading to single-parent homes in the minority community.
Fisher actually touched on this as well, stating:
"We've been used and abused for so long by that party, they don't value our vote. Their policies are basically racist policies. I believe it's a racist party. Donald Trump is just the opposite. He's going to tell you how it is. He's going to give it to you straight.
"Trump has done more for the Black community than I can any president I can think of in my lifetime."
That is not an exaggeration. As we noted above, Trump has record-low unemployment in minority communities, passed a massive package for HBCUs, and also passed the Second Chance Reauthorization Act of 2018, bipartisan legislation to enhance programs for people returning to communities after incarceration.
That was done as part of the First Step Act, which also changed sentencing laws.
Minority communities are waking up to the fact they are being used. Bidenomics has taken a toll on minority support for Democrats because they all can see how much better they were doing under Trump than Biden.
Bank accounts do not lie, regardless of what rhetoric is coming from the White House, and people are noticing.
If you look at polling, traditionally, Democrats running for office get about 90% of the vote from the black community.
In a recent poll, Biden only had 55% support from the black community. Biden is now consistently under 70% with black voters, which is a complete and utter disaster for Democrats.
This is huge for Trump if he wins the GOP primary because there will be Republicans who will refuse to vote for him.
There are the never-Trumpers, who have yet to be swayed, and now there are the DeSantis supporters who feel that Trump went way over the line in attacking DeSantis, not to mention how Trump's online team has trolled DeSantis supporters.
I watch this virtually every day, and there is a real wedge that has been driven between the Trump camp and DeSantis loyalists, who will still vote, but they will vote third-party or just not cast a vote for president.
In terms of GOP voters, I think we will see a record number of down-ballot votes cast with no vote in the presidential election in the 2024 election because of this rift.
The point is, if Trump can capture the percentage of black voters that these polls indicate he will win, it could offset the majority of votes that Trump will lose among Republicans who refuse to pull the handle for him.
