There has been a new development from the two IRS whistleblowers who came forward to Republicans about how their investigation into Hunter Biden was being blocked.
According to a new report, they are now claiming that Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice was helping the Hunter Biden defense team.
Talking Points…
- Whistleblowers come forward
- DOJ conflict of interest
- Analysis
Last year, the House Oversight Committee announced that two whistleblowers had come forward to expose how the higher-ups were interfering in their election of Hunter Biden’s tax evasion case.
The two men, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler played an integral role in the committee investigations, with their testimony being one of the anchors regarding the call to have Joe Biden impeached.
When the two men initially testified, they had stated that they were being blocked from searching Joie Biden’s home, where Hunter had set up shop for some time. They were also blocked from interviewing family members for the investigation. However, one of the biggest bombshells was that the felony tax charges they had recommended at the time were not charged. Ziegler was the first of the two to speak publicly on the matter, stating:
“It appeared to me, based on what I experienced, that the U.S. attorney in Delaware in our investigation was constantly hamstrung, limited, and marginalized by DOJ officials, as well as other U.S. attorneys.
“I still think that a special counsel is necessary for this investigation.”
On Thursday, new reports started to surface regarding the two IRS whistleblowers. Their attorney is now alleging that the Department of Justice is trying to cover its tracks in how it attempted to block the IRS investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax issues, outright accusing Attorney General Merrick Garland of having prosecuting attorneys help Hunter Biden in his criminal cases.
Empower Oversight president Tristan Leavitt reportedly penned a letter to Garland demanding that the DOJ “put a stop” to any retaliation and interference in the case. Leavitt stated:
“On issues related to the whistleblowers, Department attorneys and Hunter Biden’s attorneys are simply not adversarial in these cases.
“They are acting as if they are on the same side.”
The letter continued:
“These conflicts demand your immediate attention.
“The public deserves to know whether and to what extent you have done your duty to mitigate these conflicts of interest and to ensure that the Department stops whistleblower retaliation rather than actively participating in it.”
Ironically, Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, has engaged in using the same tactics that Trump used during his impeachment hearings of attacking the whistleblowers; only the media and Democrats are sitting on their hands rather than criticizing Biden and his attorneys for their tactics as they did to Trump.
Hunter’s attorneys have accused the whistleblowers of a “clear-cut crime” for coming forward to committee members regarding the cover-up. Higher-ups in the IRS have also been accused of retaliating against these men for coming forward against Hunter Biden. This should all play out in the coming weeks, as Rep. Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Jordan (R-OH) are now facing serious pressure to either present their impeachment charges against Biden or to drop the investigation.
