VP Kamala Harris Focuses on Combating Abuse in Podcast, Ignores Husband's Accusations

 October 7, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprising appearance on a popular podcast known for its frank discussions about sex and relationships.

According to the New York Post, Harris participated in an interview on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, where she addressed strategies to combat sexual and domestic violence. However, the conversation notably avoided recent allegations against her husband, Doug Emhoff.

During the podcast episode, Harris, 59, shared her experiences as a prosecutor and her dedication to helping abuse victims. She emphasized the importance of speaking up and seeking help for those experiencing domestic violence.

"The first thing that I would say to anyone going through it is tell someone that you trust. Don't, don't quietly suffer. You have done nothing wrong," Harris advised listeners.

The Vice President also highlighted the economic factors that often keep women in abusive relationships, stating that financial dependence on an abuser can make it difficult for victims to leave dangerous situations.

Harris Reflects on Career and Motivation to Combat Abuse

Harris recounted a personal experience that inspired her career path. She shared that her high school friend, Wanda Kagan, had confided in her about being abused by her stepfather. This revelation motivated Harris to pursue a career in law enforcement and advocacy for abuse victims.

The Vice President stressed the importance of addressing child sexual assault, noting that it is more prevalent than many people realize. She called for increased awareness and action on the issue. Harris also touched on the need for broader societal involvement in preventing abuse. She emphasized that domestic violence should not be dismissed as a private matter but rather treated as a serious concern for all.

Unaddressed Allegations and Political Implications

Despite the focus on combating abuse, the interview did not address recent allegations against Doug Emhoff, the Second Gentleman. Three friends of Emhoff's ex-girlfriend claimed he had slapped her while intoxicated in May 2012, an accusation his representatives have firmly denied.

The podcast appearance comes at a time when Harris has been vocal in her criticism of former President Donald Trump, labeling him a "predator" on the campaign trail. Trump has faced numerous sexual misconduct allegations, which he has consistently denied.

Harris also used the platform to criticize Trump's role in appointing Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade. She dismissed Trump's claims about her stance on late-term abortions as "outrageously inaccurate" and insulting to women.

Harris Addresses Personal Attacks and Women's Issues

The Vice President took the opportunity to respond to recent comments made by political opponents. She called out remarks by GOP vice presidential hopeful JD Vance about "childless cat ladies" and Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders' criticism of Harris for not having biological children.

Harris emphasized the importance of women supporting each other, regardless of their personal choices regarding family and children. She advocated for a more inclusive and supportive approach to discussing women's roles and experiences.

The "Call Her Daddy" podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper, has gained significant popularity, ranking as the second-best performing podcast on Spotify last year. Known for its candid discussions on sex and relationships, the show provided an unexpected platform for the Vice President to address serious issues affecting women.
