Senator JD Vance (R-OH) delivered a scathing critique of Vice President Kamala Harris during a campaign stop in North Carolina on Wednesday.
The Republican senator challenged Harris's leadership capabilities and her selection as the Democratic Party's presidential nominee, according to a report from Breitbart News.
Vance's remarks focused on what he described as Harris's "broken leadership" over the past four years, touching on issues ranging from the economy to border security. He argued that Harris's nomination was orchestrated by party elites rather than being the result of a democratic process within the party.
Vance began his critique by questioning the legitimacy of Harris's nomination, stating that she "hasn't won a single vote for the Democratic Party." He suggested that the Democratic leadership had overridden the will of millions of primary voters in selecting Harris as their presidential candidate.
The senator mocked what he perceived as the Democrats' attempt to appeal to rural voters and veterans through merchandise, specifically mentioning camo hats bearing Harris's name. Vance argued that a more effective strategy would be to address concerns about Harris's running mate's service record.
Vance also claimed that Harris's agenda serves the interests of those who have "gotten rich off the decline of this country" rather than the American people. He linked her policies to job losses in manufacturing and increased costs for essentials like groceries and housing.
Much of Vance's speech was dedicated to criticizing Harris's handling of border security. He accused the Vice President of allowing "a literal invasion of this country, more than 10 million illegal aliens" and refusing to deport those already present. Vance said:
Now remember, the party bosses installed Kamala Harris because they can control her. That's all this is about. Her agenda is not an agenda for the American people. It's an agenda for the people who have gotten rich off the decline of this country. And we are not going to take it, are we?
The senator expressed concern that if Harris became president, the situation at the southern border would worsen dramatically, comparing it to "Walmart on Black Friday."
Vance criticized Harris's role in foreign policy and national security matters. He contrasted her record with that of former President Donald Trump, arguing that Trump had prevented nuclear war while Harris risked "walking us right into" one.
The senator also compared the two administrations' handling of international conflicts, stating, "Under Kamala Harris, Putin invaded Ukraine. But under Donald Trump, Putin didn't do a damn thing." Vance attributed this difference to what he called Trump's "strong leadership."
In his speech, Vance touched on various domestic issues he associated with Harris's leadership. He cited rising prices, declining wages, and the closure of factories as evidence of economic mismanagement. The senator also mentioned the fentanyl crisis and the difficulty young Americans face in finding affordable housing. Vance positioned Trump as the solution to these problems, saying:
Donald J. Trump represents something that so many in this country need right now, and I think it's important to recognize that we need hope in the United States of America, hope that we can reignite this economy and bring back prosperity to American citizens.
The senator emphasized the importance of safety and security for families, linking these issues to national security and criticizing Harris's performance in this area.
In his campaign speech, Senator JD Vance presented a comprehensive critique of Vice President Kamala Harris's leadership. He challenged her nomination process, policy decisions, and handling of key issues such as border security and foreign policy. Vance contrasted Harris's record with that of former President Trump, arguing for a return to Trump's leadership style. The senator's remarks highlighted his view that a change in leadership is necessary to address the challenges facing the United States.
