U.S. Citizen Detained for Embassy Attack Plot

Imagine walking up to a U.S. Embassy with a backpack full of firebombs—well, one American thought it was a bright idea.

Joseph Neumayer, a 28-year-old dual U.S.-German citizen from Colorado, was arrested on May 25, 2025, at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after being deported from Israel for allegedly plotting to attack the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv with improvised incendiary devices, the Hill reported.

Neumayer first arrived in Israel in April 2025, seemingly just another traveler exploring the region.

Unpacking a Dangerous Plan in Tel Aviv

On May 19, 2025, things took a dark turn when he approached the embassy in Tel Aviv with a suspicious dark-colored backpack.

Reports state he spat on a guard and hurled profanities while passing by, hardly the behavior of a friendly tourist.

When a guard tried to detain him, Neumayer broke free, leaving his backpack behind like a bad memory.

Firebombs Found in Abandoned Backpack

A search of that abandoned bag revealed a chilling discovery—three makeshift incendiary devices, often called Molotov cocktails, filled with flammable liquid.

“A search of Neumayer’s backpack revealed three rudimentary improvised incendiary devices commonly known as Molotov cocktails,” the U.S. Department of Justice confirmed. Let’s be honest, that’s not the kind of souvenir you pick up at a gift shop, and it speaks volumes about intent in a world where actions like these can’t be excused as mere “protest.”

Israeli police later tracked him down to a hotel room just five blocks from the embassy, apprehending him after the incident.

Social Media Threats Raise Alarms

On the same day as the embassy stunt, May 19, 2025, Neumayer took to social media with a call to arms, urging others to join him in torching the embassy while spewing hatred with phrases like “Death to America” and disdain for the West.

Other online accounts believed to be his also contained violent threats against President Trump and even Elon Musk. Turns out, keyboard warrior antics have real-world consequences when paired with a backpack of firebombs.

“This defendant is charged with planning a devastating attack targeting our embassy in Israel, threatening death to Americans, and President Trump’s life,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. It’s hard to argue with that assessment when the evidence is explosive.

Justice Department Vows Strong Response

“The Department will not tolerate such violence and will prosecute this defendant to the fullest extent of the law,” Bondi added. That’s a promise conservatives can stand behind—protecting American lives and interests abroad shouldn’t be up for debate, no matter how much some might cry “free speech” over social media rants.

FBI Director Kash Patel echoed the sentiment, stating, “This despicable and violent behavior will not be tolerated at home or abroad.” In an era where progressive agendas often seem to downplay threats to national security, it’s refreshing to see law enforcement take a hard line against chaos and destruction.

Joseph Nocella, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, also weighed in, noting Neumayer “sought to cause chaos and destruction” at the embassy. If convicted, Neumayer faces a minimum of five years behind bars, with a potential maximum of 20 years and a fine up to $250,000—a steep price for a failed act of violence that thankfully didn’t ignite more than just outrage.
