Turley: One Glaring Omission from Hunter Biden Indictment

 December 12, 2023

The big news over the last few days on the Hunter Biden front was the new tax indictment that came down against Hunter, which includes three felony charges.

While the indictment is damning for Hunter and could hurt Joe Biden in the election, legal expert Jonathan Turley noticed that something is missing.

Latest Hunter Biden Indictment

The recently handed down indictment consists of three felony charges and six misdemeanors.

This was a direct product of the hubris of Biden’s legal team, who literally told prosecutors to tear up the previous deal when it could have been saved with a few tweaks.

Ironically, Hunter Biden’s book, “Beautiful Things,” was cited by prosecutors in the indictment, which stated that Hunter “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills.”

Hunter’s attorney is still crying in the media that this is only happening because of Hunter’s last name. Lead attorney Abbe Lowell stated:

“First, U.S. Attorney Weiss bowed to Republican pressure to file unprecedented and unconstitutional gun charges to renege on a non-prosecution resolution. Now, after five years of investigating with no new evidence – and two years after Hunter paid his taxes in full – the U.S. Attorney has piled on nine new charges when he had agreed just months ago to resolve this matter with a pair of misdemeanors.”

Turley Says Something Is Missing

Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley, who you may remember from the Trump impeachment hearings, has looked over the indictment and noticed one rather significant omission in the filing, actually two.

Turley believes that Special Counsel David Weiss crafted the indictment specifically to protect Joe Biden, stating:

“Throughout this, there’s one person who is, just seems to be completely omitted, and that is Joe Biden. It’s like arresting a bank robber for speeding away from the crime scene without mentioning why he was speeding.

“And you know, all these details are how Hunter Biden got all of this money from all of these foreign sources, from Ukraine, Romania, China. But there is nary a mention of the president himself.”

There is actually something else missing that is a huge benefit for Hunter Biden, and it is something that the DOJ has hammered some of Trump’s allies on in the past.

Turley explained:

“There’s also no mention of [the Foreign Agents Registration Act] FARA, you know, the Department of Justice has given out FARA charges to people like Paul Manafort in rather short order. They were not in any way reluctant to bring those charges that you are an unregistered foreign agent. This complaint screams of being an unregistered foreign agent, but that is also not mentioned.

“But finally, it’s also not mentioned, of course, that they allowed some of these crimes to expire. There is still no explanation why the special counsel decided, when he didn’t have to, let the early felonies expire and all of those questions are left unanswered.”

Analysis

Even though we are seeing three felonies in this indictment, I am still not expecting any serious jail time for Hunter Biden.

Until proven otherwise, I think Weiss is doing this all for show, and he will eventually work out another plea deal for Hunter that will likely not send him to jail and offer community service hours and parole.

I say this because Joe Biden has been adamant that he will not pardon Hunter, and we all know that if Hunter stood to do serious time, he would already be singing about his father’s involvement in his business dealings.

Weiss is setting off some fireworks to make it look good, but I would bet my last dollar that Hunter never sees the inside of a jail cell regarding this indictment.
