Tom Homan, referred to as the border czar, emphasized the significance of this achievement last Wednesday. Under Biden, the day with the most apprehensions reached 14,509 in December 2023.
Mike Banks, who started his role right before President Trump's inauguration on January 20, has had a long career with the Border Patrol. He previously served as the border czar for Texas Governor Greg Abbott, bringing considerable experience to his current position, which is appointed by the head of the Department of Homeland Security.
Over the last few months, Trump's immigration policies have been recognized for their effectiveness. Analysis shows a 54% decrease in illegal border crossings from October 2023 through early February 2025.
Mike Banks elaborated on the strategic achievements in a statement:
"By stopping the flow at the border, we also streamline the removal of illegal entrants already in the country, reinforcing the integrity of our immigration system. Last year, during the leap year, there were over 142,000 arrests in February, averaging about 4,900 arrests per day. This year's figures represent a significant enforcement shift."
