Lt. Gen. John Daniel Caine has been confirmed by the Senate as the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The vote tally was notably bipartisan with a final count of 60 in favor and 25 against, including support from 15 Democrats. This came after a failed attempt by the Republican Party to expedite John Daniel Caine’s nomination just the day before.

Caine was also a White House fellow at the Agriculture Department and a counterterrorism expert on the White House’s Homeland Security Council.
