Trump Warns Thailand, Cambodia on Trade Amid Conflict

 July 26, 2025, NEWS

President Trump is playing hardball with Thailand and Cambodia, threatening to slam the brakes on trade deals as a deadly border clash rages on.

With tensions boiling over between the two Southeast Asian nations, Trump has linked future trade agreements to a ceasefire, while at least 32 lives have been lost and tens of thousands displaced in the ongoing conflict, the Hill reported.

The border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia has turned lethal, with 19 deaths reported on the Thai side and 13 in Cambodia, according to The Associated Press. It’s a tragic mess that’s uprooted countless families. And for what? A patch of dirt neither side seems ready to concede.

Conflict Escalates With Casualties Mounting Fast

The violence spiked on Wednesday when a land mine explosion wounded five Thai soldiers, adding fuel to an already roaring fire. This isn’t just a skirmish—it’s a humanitarian crisis in the making.

By Saturday, the conflict had dragged into its third day, showing no signs of cooling off. Civilians are bearing the brunt, with tens of thousands forced from their homes. It’s a stark reminder that border spats aren’t just lines on a map—they’re lives upended.

Enter President Trump, who, while visiting Scotland, picked up the phone on Saturday to press for peace. He spoke directly with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, urging an immediate ceasefire. This isn’t diplomacy for show; it’s a demand with teeth.

Trump Ties Trade to Ceasefire Demands

Trump didn’t mince words on Truth Social, stating, “We do not want to make any Deal, with either Country, if they are fighting.” Call it tough love, but he’s making it clear that trade perks aren’t handouts for warring nations. Turns out, actions have consequences.

He also reflected, “Many people are being killed in this War,” comparing it to the India-Pakistan conflict he claims to have helped resolve. While some might roll their eyes at the analogy, the point stands—lives are on the line, and Trump’s pushing for a halt.

In another post, he noted, “Thailand, like Cambodia, wants to have an immediate Ceasefire.” If both sides are signaling a desire for peace, as Trump suggests, then why the delay? It’s time to put egos aside and prioritize people over pride.

Trade Talks Hang in the Balance

Trump added on Truth Social, “After speaking to both Parties, Ceasefire, Peace, and Prosperity seem to be a natural.” That optimism is refreshing, but let’s not pop the champagne just yet. Talks are one thing; results are another.

He also shared, “They have agreed to immediately meet and quickly work out a Ceasefire.” If true, this could be the first step toward de-escalation, though history teaches us to watch for follow-through. Trust, but verify, as the old saying goes.

Trump’s not stopping at words—he’s threatened to slap a 36 percent reciprocal tariff on both Bangkok and Phnom Penh, effective Aug. 1. It’s a bold move to twist arms economically. And frankly, in a world obsessed with globalist hand-holding, it’s a rare dose of accountability.

Peace Could Unlock Future Trade Deals

On the trade front, Trump posted, “They are also looking to get back to the ‘Trading Table’ with the United States.” But he’s holding firm that no deals will be inked until the fighting stops. It’s a pragmatic stance—why reward chaos with economic goodies?

He also expressed hope, saying, “They have a long and storied History and Culture.” There’s a nod to mutual respect here, a reminder that these nations aren’t just pawns in a geopolitical game. Still, respect doesn’t mean ignoring bad behavior.

Wrapping up his thoughts, Trump wrote, “When all is done, and Peace is at hand, I look forward to concluding our Trading Agreements.” It’s a carrot dangled after the stick—a promise of prosperity if cooler heads prevail. Let’s hope both leaders take the hint and choose peace over prolonged suffering.
