Donald Trump is only a few weeks removed from an assassination attempt, so you would think he would be extra careful during an outside rally.
That was not the case during a recent North Carolina rally, where Trump gave his protective detail a heart attack for leaving the protected area to check on a supporter who had been overcome by the heat.
Talking Points…
- New rules for outdoor rallies
- Trump defies Secret Service
- Analysis
After seeing the reports on the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, I think we can all agree that it never should have happened in the first place. Regardless, the failures that day have inspired the Secret Service to take new protective measures to protect Donald Trump when he is doing outdoor rallies.
One of the most significant changes is that Trump will now be surrounded by bulletproof shields, something that is typically reserved for the sitting vice president and president. After the new measures were announced, an official, who preferred not to be named, stated:
"Former presidents and candidates don't usually get bulletproof glass or support from DoD [Department of Defense].
"This glass needs to be brought in on trucks and vans."
The report went on to say that Trump will get more measures usually reserved for a sitting vice president or president, such as drone coverage, which was not used on the day that the assassination attempt took place.
The new security measures were put in place for Trump's first outdoor rally since the assassination attempt in Asheboro, NC. A massive ballistic panel was put in place to block a direct shot at Trump, with additional panels covering his sides and back. However, the panels only work if Trump stays behind them, which he did not do during this rally.
About halfway through Trump's speech, one of the rally attendees was overcome by the heat. Trump heard supporters calling for a medic, so he paused his speech, noticing that one of the rally attendees was down, likely from heat exhaustion.
So, Trump did what Trump does: He completely disregarded security protocols and worked his way off the stage beyond the protection of the ballistic glass. Then, he checked on the supporter, giving the woman a hug as well…
The crowd, of course, loved every second of it, and instances like this are why Trump's supporters are so loyal to the man. At many of these rallies, people spend multiple days camped out to ensure they can get a close seat to him during the rally, and Trump truly appreciates their support.
This was not Trump's smartest move, but there is not a person alive who can tell this man "No" when he has his heart set on something. I have been critical of Trump in the past for his antics, but I think he is running a fairly decent campaign this time around, staying on point and making himself far more personable and likable than he has in the past.
My issue right now is with the RNC, which is being run by Trump's daughter-in-law, for not going after the Democrat Party for bypassing the American voters, removing a candidate, then replacing that candidate with a hand-picked candidate with the American people having no say. Again, had the Dems used the 25th Amendment or Biden resigned his presidency, I would have no problem with Harris stepping in as the incumbent, but they did something unprecedented in the history of this country and our elections, and it is not even being challenged. That, I do not understand.
