Reconstruction has resumed on a previously canceled border wall project in the Texas Rio Grande Valley under the current Trump administration.
According to Breitbart, The resumption of this work follows a series of newly signed executive orders by President Trump aimed at bolstering southern U.S. border security.
The border wall upgrade, which involves replacing existing six-foot-tall guardrails with new 18-foot-high bollard panels, was initially planned during Donald Trump's former presidency but was halted when President Joe Biden took office.
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks announced the project's restart, emphasizing that these tall panels will significantly thwart illegal crossings.
He stated that this initiative directly responds to President Trump’s recent executive orders aimed at establishing fuller operational control over the southern border.
Additionally, on the day officials announced the project's restart, key figures—including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard—visited Eagle Pass, Texas, to observe the proceedings firsthand.
DURING HIS VISIT, Vice President JD Vance highlighted the critical ongoing need for cooperation from Mexico in managing border security effectively, linking it directly with the surge in fentanyl overdoses in the United States.
JD Vance elaborated on this pressing issue by stating:
The president has said we need sustained commitment from the government of Mexico to take the job of border security seriously. Fentanyl is the single largest cause of death among young Americans, and we know that a substantial portion of … the precursors are made in China. They come to Mexico. They’re manufactured in Mexico and brought across the border by the Mexican drug cartels.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, providing a local perspective, warmly received the Trump administration officials in Eagle Pass and expressed his support for the renewed efforts to secure the border.
Following these administrative actions, a noteworthy reduction in migrant encounters has been recorded. The data from February shows a striking 94% decrease when compared to the same period a year prior.

The total figure for migrant arrests in February stood at 8,326, which is the lowest since fiscal year 2000. This demonstrates a significant turnaround in border crossing activities, aligning it with some of the lowest apprehension numbers recorded since April 2017.
