According to the Washington Examiner, Terry Cole, Virginia's current secretary of public safety and homeland security, has been nominated as the new Drug Enforcement Administration administrator following the withdrawal of Trump's previous nominee in December.
Cole brings extensive experience to the position, having served 21 years at the DEA with assignments in Colombia, Afghanistan, and Mexico City. In his current role, he oversees a state-level agency employing more than 19,000 people. If confirmed by the Senate, Cole would take over from acting DEA Administrator Derek S. Maltz, who has held the position since Inauguration Day.
The nomination comes after a contentious period surrounding Trump's initial choice for the position. Florida Sheriff Chad Chronister's nomination was withdrawn amid controversy regarding his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
