Other than "defund" and "impeachment," the most overused word in politics today is "threat to our democracy."
It was used again by an MSNBC columnist who was trying to make the case that Trump needed to "die in prison" for attempting to pull off a "coup."
I am so sick of this phrase, mostly because it only applies to Republicans.
Just go back and look at what Democrats said after the 2016 election.
When Trump fought back against the election results, all he did was use a game plan that Democrats have used for decades, but it all of a sudden became a "threat to our democracy."
Obeidallah says nothing when Biden's White House gets caught censoring the American people.
He says nothing about the immigration problem that is destroying wages and overwhelming local communities.
But man, bring up the bad orange man, and he goes off.
In one of the most outrageous statements I have ever heard, Obeidallah stated:
“Because either we’re going to protect the Democratic Republic or we’re going to allow people — in this case, Trump — to chip away at our democracy and chip away at what we believe in these institutions.
“That’s why I’m so passionate about, like with every fiber of my being, that Donald Trump has to live out his natural days, his last days of natural life, in a prison cell."
The only thing I give him credit for in that statement is that, unlike most people, he actually got it right by calling our country a Democratic Republic instead of a democracy.
This argument is exhausting mostly because we are literally talking to a wall when discussing this with liberals.
The problem with the argument made by Obeidallah is that it is entirely one-sided.
Nancy Pelosi literally said the election was stolen. Maxine Waters literally called for violence against Trump officials when he was in office.
The list goes on and on, and the media sat on their hands the entire time.
The media, in part, drove Trump to this point.
There was never an acceptance of him having won that election, and they fought him tooth and nail, very often with bogus accusations, so it was no reason he went off the deep end by the end of his four years.
Sadly, if he does manage to get re-elected, 2024-28 will be much worse.
This country will be in meltdown mode for four more years, and the media will be leading the charge.
And believe me, if tens of thousands of liberals charge the White House with Trump in it, the media will be there cheering them on.
