Trump grants clemency to Hunter Biden's associates

 April 2, 2025

A complex web of business dealings and political intrigue surrounds the recent release of Jason Galanis, a former business associate of Hunter Biden and Devon Archer.

According to Fox News, President Donald Trump has commuted the prison sentence of Galanis, who was described by Trump administration officials as the "fall guy" for Hunter Biden's business activities.

Galanis had served eight years and eight months of his 14-year sentence for securities fraud involving bonds issued by a Native American tribe in South Dakota. The conviction stemmed from a scheme where funds meant for tribal projects were diverted for personal use. During his imprisonment, Galanis maintained an unblemished record but reportedly faced severe circumstances, including sexual assault by a security guard.

Hunter Biden's business empire connections

The case intersects with broader investigations into the Biden family's business dealings. Galanis worked alongside Hunter Biden and Devon Archer between 2012 and 2015, focusing on acquiring Burnham & Co, a division of Drexel Burnham Lambert.

Their joint venture aimed to create a diversified private equity platform, combining a renowned Wall Street brand with political connections. The enterprise managed audited assets exceeding $17 billion.

During his testimony to congressional investigators, Galanis provided significant insights into the nature of their business relationship. He revealed that Hunter Biden's primary value to their enterprise stemmed from his family name and access to his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden family political implications

Galanis's testimony during the House impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden proved particularly consequential. He disclosed that the former vice president had considered joining the board of a joint venture connected to the Chinese Communist Party after leaving office.

The investigation culminated in House lawmakers producing a 300-page report concluding that President Biden had engaged in "impeachable conduct" and had "abused his office" to enrich his family.

Trump administration officials emphasized Galanis's cooperation during the impeachment proceedings, noting this factored into the decision to commute his sentence.

Presidential pardons and political aftermath

The case has broader implications within the context of recent presidential pardons. Trump's decision to commute Galanis's sentence follows his March pardon of Devon Archer, another key figure in the business network.

Trump administration's spokesperson quoted Archer's response to his pardon:

I want to extend my deepest thanks to President Trump. I am grateful to the president for recognizing that I was the victim of a convoluted lawfare effort intended to destroy and silence me. Like so many people, my life was devastated by the Biden family's selfish disregard for the truth and for the peace of mind and happiness of others. The Bidens talk about justice, but they don't mean it.

Before leaving office, President Biden issued a comprehensive pardon for his son Hunter, covering potential offenses against the United States from January 2014 to December 2024. Biden defended this decision, stating:

From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted. There has been an effort to break Hunter — who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me — and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.

The final chapter unfolds

Jason Galanis's release marks a significant development in the ongoing saga of Hunter Biden's business dealings and their political ramifications. Trump's decision to commute Galanis's sentence came after he served more than eight years in prison for securities fraud related to a Native American tribal bond scheme. The commutation follows Galanis's cooperation with House Republicans during their impeachment inquiry into President Biden, where he provided testimony about the Biden family's business operations and alleged influence-peddling schemes involving foreign entities.
