Trump directs $90 Medicare premium checks to more than 20 million seniors

President Trump announced one-time $90 payments this month for more than 20 million seniors to help cover Medicare premiums, drawing on a fund he says Democrats long wasted.

Eligible Medicare Part B enrollees will get the money by direct deposit or paper check, the White House said, in a move Trump outlined Friday night as relief aimed squarely at seniors’ monthly costs.

The payments come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, created in 2008. Trump cast the account as money that sat idle for political favorites rather than working people who actually pay premiums.

Seniors whose premiums are already covered by Medicaid do not qualify. Neither do people who pay the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, the higher charge tied to income.

Fund long treated as spare cash, Trump says

Trump did not soften the critique. He called the Medicare Improvement Fund a pointless “Slush Fund” that “has only been used by Dumocrats in Congress to pay for the Waste, Fraud, and Abuse for their Special Interest friends, and drive up Healthcare costs.”

On Truth Social he tied the checks to a broader cost push:

“We are finally using this Fund, along with my Most Favored Nations Deals, to substantially LOWER costs for our Seniors,”

He framed the payments as keeping a campaign promise on the two programs older Americans watch closest.

“I pledged to protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security, which were on the verge of RUIN by Joe Biden, who foolishly and maliciously let tens of millions of Illegal Aliens into our Country, and we are doing just that for America’s Seniors,”

In Trump’s telling, open borders under the prior administration strained the same safety net seniors rely on. The $90 checks, he argued, put money back on the side of lawful retirees instead of leaving the fund for congressional pet projects.

$500 refunds already moving on a separate track

The Medicare payment is not the only relief check in motion. It sits apart from $500 payments the administration has already announced for about 950,000 Obamacare enrollees.

Those refunds rest on the claim that the Biden administration overcharged user fees to health insurers. Trump underscored the split so no one would confuse the two:

“separate from the equally substantial Refund ‘Checks’ we are sending to One Million Americans who were overcharged for their Unaffordable Care Act plans by Joe Biden.”

One track hits Medicare Part B premiums for more than 20 million seniors. The other targets Affordable Care Act enrollees the White House says were dinged by fee policy under the last administration. Different pools. Different problems. Same month of action.

Midterms tied to a larger dividend promise

Trump went further on what comes next. He linked a much larger payout to the next election:

“Because I delivered on this very important issue for the American People, they can also rest assured the highly popular $5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every US citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!”

That $5,000 figure is conditional. It is not a check in the mail this month. It is a pledge hanging on Republican control after the midterms, offered as the payoff for finishing the cost-cutting work he says is already underway.

For now the concrete item is narrower and immediate: a one-time $90 payment, this month, to eligible Part B seniors, funded from the 2008 Medicare Improvement Fund, delivered by direct deposit or check, with Medicaid-paid premiums and income-related surcharges carved out.

Seniors living on fixed incomes do not need another lecture about “investments” in programs that somehow never shrink their bills. They need the premium help to show up.
