Trump Calls for Banning of Nikki Haley Donors from MAGA

 January 25, 2024

Just two days ago, Donald Trump said it was time for the party to unite behind him and his election campaign against Joe Biden.

Then Trump went on Truth Social to blast Nikki Haley as well as her donors, saying they should all be banned from MAGA.

Talking Points…
- Trump calls for unity
- Trump attacks Haley
- Analysis

Trump Calls for Unity

After Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the presidential race, Donald Trump tried to reach out with an olive branch, but I would suspect that DeSantis would not accept it. Trump thanked DeSantis for his endorsement, which DeSantis made quite clear that it was only because he signed the loyalty pledge with the RNC.

Then Trump called for "unity" in the party, using the term "we" dozens of times in his speech. Trump later added:

"We're going to come together."

Trump Attacks Nikki Haley

Trump's truce is only in effect for those who have dropped out of the race, apparently, because he is still firing off attacks against Haley. Trump took this one to an extreme, however, saying he would ban any Haley donors from MAGA. Trump posted to Truth Social:

"Nikki' Birdbrain' Haley is very bad for the Republican Party and, indeed, our Country. Her False Statements, Derogatory Comments, and Humiliating Public Loss, is demeaning to True American Patriots.

"Her anger should be aimed at her Third Rate Political Consultants and, more importantly, Crooked Joe Biden and those that are destroying our Country - NOT THE PEOPLE WHO WILL SAVE IT."

Trump then voiced his displeasure with the candidates who have dropped out and refused to help his campaign. Then he went after Haley and her donors, concluding:

"Anybody that makes a 'Contribution' to Birdbrain, from this moment forth, will be permanently barred from the MAGA camp. We don't want them and will not accept them because we Put America First, and ALWAYS WILL!"

Analysis

Let me brace you guys for something you are probably not going to want to hear… if Trump truly wants to win this election, this nonsense needs to stop.

Thanks to his social media influencers, most notably Alex Bruesewitz, who has incessantly attacked and demeaned DeSantis supporters on X, most of DeSantis' supporters have been alienated.

If Trump is now openly alienating Haley supporters, there is not going to be much left for him to draw from in terms of adding votes to his campaign aside from his MAGA supporters. Over and above that, the man had just called for unity, then went on a brutal attack on another candidate whose support he would need if he wanted to win this election. It is just not a good look for the Trump campaign, which needs to draw in more support, not repel it.
