Donald Trump isn’t pulling punches—this time, he’s accusing Democrats of leaking classified intel to undercut U.S. military success in Iran.
According to Mediaite, Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to slam what he described as a political sabotage operation aimed at minimizing the impact of recent strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites.
“They should be prosecuted!” he wrote, alleging Democrats were behind a leak that downplayed the mission’s effectiveness and handed propaganda material to the same regime that chants “Death to America.”
The former president’s comments came in response to media reports citing an early intelligence assessment. Those reports claimed the airstrikes only delayed Iran’s nuclear ambitions by months, not years, as the administration has claimed. Trump wasn’t having it.
Calling the attacks a “PERFECT FLIGHT,” Trump blasted the reporting as “fake news” and reiterated that Iranian nuclear infrastructure was “obliterated.” In typical Trump fashion, he made it clear: the mission was a success, and the leak was an inside job.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth backed Trump during a Thursday presser, dismissing the media spin as premature noise. “Initial reports are almost always wrong,” Hegseth said—though apparently, CNN didn’t get that memo before hitting publish.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt went on offense as well, calling out the selective leak as a political maneuver designed to mislead the public. According to her, only “bits and pieces” of the classified report made it to the press, carefully curated to build a “false narrative.”
In other words, the media saw what they wanted to see—anything to muddy up a win. It’s a familiar game: real battlefield success gets buried beneath Beltway spin and anonymous sources conveniently echoing the opposition.
Trump didn’t stop at calling out Democrats. He also took aim at CNN’s national security correspondent Natasha Bertrand, the face behind the early leak report. His advice? Fire her—“like a dog.”
The president accused CNN and others of “demeaning” the brave pilots who carried out the strike. And while CNN predictably pushed back, claiming they stand by Bertrand’s reporting, it’s hard to ignore the implication that the media’s storyline does more to comfort Tehran than to inform Americans.
Trump’s outrage stems from more than just bruised ego—he sees the leak as an active threat to national security and morale. When journalists act as megaphones for half-baked intelligence, it’s not just careless, it’s dangerous.
CNN wasn’t the only outlet Trump called out, but it bore the brunt of his ire for lending credibility to what he considers an orchestrated smear campaign against a successful mission.
Meanwhile, an FBI investigation is reportedly underway to determine who leaked the early assessment. If it turns out to be politically motivated—as Trump alleges—it wouldn’t just be a leak. It would be a betrayal.
The timing is suspect, the beneficiaries obvious, and the consequences real. When intel leaks are used as political weapons, it becomes less about truth and more about control of the narrative.
For a party that once screamed about foreign interference and intelligence integrity, the Democrats seem oddly quiet about a leak that handed Iran a morale boost and muddied a critical U.S. operation.
