According to Fox News, the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, allegedly used a firearm belonging to his stepmother, a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

Following the incident, she has taken personal leave to process the incident, with no confirmed date for her return.
Shonda Knight, Executive Director of Community and Media Relations at the Leon County Sheriff's Office, noted the difficult position Deputy Ikner finds herself in. "As it relates to Deputy Ikner, she has opted to take personal leave. And she is not in office, of course, as a result of that. And we do not have a return date as of this point. She's taking some time to obviously process this tragic situation," Knight elucidated.
Phoenix Ikner knew law enforcement protocols and community service well, having participated in the Sheriff's Office Youth Advisory Council. This involvement likely provided him knowledge and understanding of firearms, accredited to family exposure and safety training associated with being in a law enforcement environment.

"But our law-enforcement members responded swiftly, and lives were saved because of that. So we are grateful for all the partners who participated in ensuring the safety of our community.
