Tom Homan Warns Newsom and Bass of Legal Consequences Over Immigration Clash

 June 10, 2025

Amid the chaos of the Los Angeles riots, Border Czar Tom Homan has ignited a firestorm by warning California Governor Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass that crossing the line on immigration enforcement could land them in legal hot water.

At the heart of this escalating drama is a bitter feud between Newsom and President Donald Trump over the National Guard's deployment to Los Angeles, compounded by sharp disagreements on deporting unauthorized migrants and managing the city’s spiraling unrest, the Washington Examiner reported.

The clash began as tensions flared over Los Angeles, a sanctuary city, where Homan described the situation as “out of control” and accused Newsom and Bass of doing “nothing” to address it.

Homan Stands Firm on Enforcement

Homan didn’t mince words, emphasizing that “no one’s above the law” when it comes to obstructing federal efforts to deport unauthorized migrants.

His blunt stance drew a defiant response from Newsom, who practically dared Homan to arrest him after the border czar warned that “anybody” interfering with enforcement would face consequences.

Well, turns out actions might just have repercussions, and Homan’s message seems clear: play by the rules, or face the music, no matter your title.

Trump and Newsom Trade Barbs Online

Adding fuel to the fire, President Trump jumped into the fray, publicly stating he’d arrest Newsom himself if he were in Homan’s shoes.

While Trump’s online sparring with Newsom keeps the headlines buzzing, it’s Homan’s focus on policy that’s driving the real debate—namely, ensuring federal law isn’t sidelined by local resistance.

Meanwhile, Homan defended the right to protest, noting protesters have “the right to protest,” but stressed they can’t impede law enforcement or shield unauthorized migrants from deportation.

ICE to Intensify Presence in LA

On the ground, Homan doubled down, announcing that Immigration and Customs Enforcement will “flood the zone” in sanctuary cities like Los Angeles to enforce federal mandates.

He also called for Congress to pass Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” to properly fund border patrol, framing it as a critical step to secure the nation’s edges.

By Monday, Homan clarified his earlier remarks about Newsom, calling the controversy “blown so far out of proportion” and insisting no direct threat was made—only that prosecution awaits anyone who breaks the law.

Federal Authority Asserts Its Reach

Attorney General Pam Bondi backed Homan’s position, affirming the federal government’s jurisdiction over California to prosecute those involved in the Los Angeles riots.

Bondi delivered a blunt warning, saying that anyone who dares to “spit on a federal law enforcement officer” will face federal charges and up to five years in prison—a stern reminder of where authorities draw the line.

She also revealed that the FBI has identified a suspect seen throwing cinderblocks at ICE vehicles and plans to add that person to the “Most Wanted” list, signaling zero tolerance for lawlessness.
