Sen. John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele, were involved in a car accident on Interstate 70 in western Maryland on Sunday, resulting in minor injuries for the senator.
The couple was evaluated at a local hospital and discharged the same afternoon, as confirmed by a representative.
According to the Western Journal, the accident occurred when the Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Fetterman, rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala that was traveling in the same direction.
Both vehicles' occupants were transported by ambulance to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for evaluation and treatment.
Sen. Fetterman, 54, sustained minor injuries, including a bruised shoulder, from the collision. Despite the incident, he plans to travel to Washington this week to participate in Senate votes. Gisele Fetterman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also discharged from the hospital that same afternoon.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with no citations issued as of yet. Fetterman’s spokesperson confirmed that the couple is "doing well and happy to be back in Braddock."
This marks another incident in a series of health-related challenges for Fetterman, who experienced a stroke in 2022, affecting his speech and comprehension.
In addition to the accident, Fetterman has been in the news for his strong stance on international issues, particularly his pro-Israel rhetoric and criticism of fellow Democrats who support Hamas. Despite his recent health scare and the ongoing investigation into the crash, Fetterman remains committed to his duties in the Senate.
"On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver. Out of an abundance of caution, they were evaluated at a local hospital," a representative for the senator stated. "John was treated for a bruised shoulder, and they were discharged that afternoon. They are doing well and happy to be back in Braddock."
Sen. Fetterman’s health has been a topic of concern since his stroke in 2022, which has impacted his ability to understand speech and communicate clearly.
This recent accident adds to the list of health challenges he has faced. Nevertheless, Fetterman continues to actively participate in his legislative duties.
The crash on Interstate 70 has drawn attention due to Fetterman’s political role and the ongoing scrutiny of his health. As the investigation proceeds, the focus remains on Fetterman’s recovery and his return to Senate activities.
