Sen. JD Vance Praises Local Business After Entry Denial

 September 30, 2024

Senator JD Vance (R-OH) recently experienced an unexpected hurdle when he was denied entry to a Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Sports Bar near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

According to Breitbart News, the restaurant staff cited concerns about the event becoming a political spectacle. Despite the setback, Vance maintained a positive attitude, praising the establishment as a “great local business.”

Vance's visit to the restaurant was part of his ongoing political activities, but the staff at Primanti Bros. informed the press that cameras were not allowed and that they did not want the establishment to be used for a campaign event. The restaurant chain, known for its sandwiches and multiple locations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland, faced a moment of confusion due to the lack of advance notice.

Senator's Positive Response to Unexpected Situation

In a video shared on social media, Vance was seen addressing a crowd outside the restaurant. He explained that despite the initial confusion, his team had paid for everyone's food and left a generous tip. Vance used this opportunity to promote his campaign message, mentioning his stance on tax policy.

The Ohio Senator stated:

We paid for everybody's food, we gave them a nice tip. And, of course when I gave them a nice tip, I said, 'No taxes on tips.' Don't hold it against her, she just got a little nervous. But, it's a great local business, let's keep on supporting it, and most importantly, November 5th, or before, go vote. Let's go win this thing.

Vance's response showcased his ability to handle unexpected situations with poise and turn them into positive campaign moments. By encouraging continued support for the restaurant and linking the incident to his political platform, he demonstrated political savvy in the face of a potential setback.

Restaurant Chain's Explanation of the Incident

Primanti Bros., a popular restaurant chain with locations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland, quickly addressed the situation. Adam Golomb, the CEO of Primanti Bros., provided a statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding Vance's initial denial of entry.

Golomb explained that the restaurant had not received any advance notice of the campaign stop, which led to some confusion among the staff. He emphasized that Senator Vance and his team were ultimately welcomed into the restaurant and were able to engage with guests both inside and on the property.

This explanation suggests that the incident was a result of miscommunication rather than any intentional slight against the senator or his campaign. It also highlights the challenges that can arise when political campaigns intersect with day-to-day business operations, especially without prior coordination.

Public Venues Face Challenges With Politicians

The incident involving Senator Vance is not an isolated occurrence in the realm of political campaigning. Restaurants and other public venues often become impromptu stops for politicians on the campaign trail, sometimes leading to unexpected situations.

Interestingly, this event follows a separate incident reported at another Primanti Bros. location in Moon, Pennsylvania. According to Fox News, there were claims that customers at that location were asked to leave before Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, arrived for a campaign event.

These occurrences underscore the complex dynamics between political campaigns, local businesses, and the public. While campaign stops can bring attention and potential business to local establishments, they can also disrupt normal operations and create challenging situations for staff and management.

In conclusion, Senator JD Vance's graceful handling of being initially denied entry to a Primanti Bros. restaurant near Pittsburgh demonstrates the unpredictable nature of political campaigning. Despite the initial confusion, Vance turned the situation into a positive moment for his campaign, praising the local business and encouraging voter participation. The restaurant chain's quick response and clarification helped to smooth over any potential controversy, highlighting the importance of clear communication in such situations.
