Rep. Donalds Wants to Push Biden Impeachment Vote

 August 21, 2024

This week, Republican House investigators finally released the much-anticipated impeachment report against Joe Biden.

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), one of Trump's biggest allies in the House, wants to force a vote on Biden's impeachment after seeing the report.

Talking Points…

- To vote or not to vote

The Impeachment Report

The House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means Committees released the joint report revealing their findings on whether Biden had committed impeachable offenses. Again, though, the report centered around Biden's conduct as a private citizen and as vice president, so there are a lot of questions remaining about whether they can actually impeach Biden as president for acts he committed as a vice president or private citizen.

That aside, the committee report stated that investigators found proof that Biden had violated his oath of office as vice president and attempted to tie it to the Biden administration. They accused President Biden of having obstructed justice in the inquiry and the investigation into Hunter Biden (which is how they are tying in being able to impeach Biden now).

In the report, Rep. Jim Jordan stated:

"Our impeachment inquiry shows conclusively that Joe Biden abused his public office for the private financial benefit of the Biden family and Biden business associates. The facts speak for themselves, and Democrats can no longer stretch the truth to cover for President Biden.

"As Democrats celebrate Joe Biden and crown Kamala Harris as his heir apparent this week, Americans should remember the reality of the Biden-Harris Administration: crime, chaos, and corruption."

Donalds Wants a Vote

Rep. Donalds believes the case is strong enough that Biden's impeachment should now be put on the floor. If you did not read the report, there are three tie-ins to the current administration, accusing the DOJ of giving Hunter special treatment, misleading Congress about the DOJ's independence, and obstructing the investigation. Everything else relates to Biden's time as VP or private citizen.

Donalds, on recommending the impeachment be put on the floor, stated:

"I've felt that way for a long time. I'm on the Oversight Committee, I've seen all of the evidence up close and personal.

"It is without a doubt that he used his office when he was vice president to enrich his family as pay-for-play. That's public corruption."

He also added that the vote is important to hold everyone accountable. Donalds stated:

"It'll definitely probably come up, and we'll see where it is. And look, I know members, they all are trying to figure out what they're going to do in their re-elections, but we have a responsibility to hold the executive branch accountable. That is the job of Congress.

"I think one of the reasons why a lot of people are losing faith in our institutions is because it appears that people at the top of our politics just get away with everything and are never held accountable. And that's wrong."

Analysis

I cannot stress enough how much I think Biden is guilty of corruption, but the reality is that the motion will never get through Congress. I am not even sure they have enough votes in the House to impeach Biden, but even if they do, this inquiry will die on the floor of the Senate the same way the Mayorkas impeachment did. Not only that, but with it failing, I think it would energize Democrat voters even more than they already are with the changeover from Biden to Harris. I would advise dropping it, especially this late in the election cycle.
