A staffer for Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) and a friend were victims of an attempted armed robbery in Washington, DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood.
According to Breitbart News, Collins disclosed the attack in a statement, revealing that three men attempted to rob his staffer and a friend at gunpoint early in the morning. One of the attackers punched one of the victims in the face, while another attempted to steal a watch.

In January 2024, D.C. Councilmember Brooke Pinto introduced the Secure DC Omnibus bill. This comprehensive legislative package addresses high crime rates through over 100 interventions. The bill includes allowing vehicular chases in cases of imminent threat, establishing new penalties for firearm-related felonies, and permitting the MPD to declare drug-free zones.
Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the bill into law in March, permanently and on an emergency basis. This allows most provisions to take immediate effect, reflecting the urgency of addressing the city's crime issues.
