The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a British tourist has finally reached a somber conclusion.

According to Fox News, the FBI recently found the remains of Alex Hodgson Doughty, who had been missing since September 2022, in a wooded area in Georgia.

Alex Hodgson Doughty, aged 32 and hailing from the United Kingdom, was last seen alive at the Bay Street Bar and Grill in Jacksonville, Florida. His disappearance occurred around 3:30 p.m. on September 11, 2022. Pamela Hodgson, his worried mother, reported him missing after losing contact with him during his vacation in Florida.

Key Breakthrough from FBI's Cellular Analysis

An extensive investigation led by the FBI finally ended when the remains were located in Kingsland, Georgia. This town is approximately 35 miles north of Jacksonville, where Doughty was last seen. The authorities made this discovery on February 4, 2025, guided by geolocation data from Doughty's mobile phone.

The Jacksonville branch of the FBI's Cellular Analysis Survey Team was crucial in pinpointing the area where Doughty could be found. Special agent in charge Kristin Rehler highlighted the role of technology and teamwork in the investigation.

Here is a statement from Kristin Rehler: "While we had hoped to bring Mr. Doughty’s family better news, we are thankful to be able to provide them with some closure. This discovery is the direct result of our partnerships and special agents from FBI Jacksonville’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), who were relentless in their efforts to narrow down potential search locations."

Tests conducted by the Medical Examiner's Office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed the remains belonged to Doughty. Despite this closure, the FBI has ruled out foul play and is not pursuing any criminal charges.

Community and Family's Lingering Questions

Pamela Hodgson had been vocal about her concerns when her son vanished, frequently updating his social media to request public assistance in finding him.

In January 2023, she expressed her agony and uncertainty about her son’s whereabouts. She suggested that Alex might have visited additional Florida locations, such as Callahan and Fernandina, according to clues pieced together over time.

Here is the heartfelt plea Pamela Hodgson shared online: "Alex has been missing now for four months. Please help find him. While there are still uncertainties in Alex's disappearance… it is believed he stopped in Callahan and/or Fernandina, Fla., on this journey."

Pamela also noted the distressing lack of communication from Alex since he had arrived in Florida, a fact that significantly increased the family's and friends' worry for his safety.

End of a Long Search

The exhaustive search for Alex Hodgson Doughty spanned several cities and countless hours of investigative work. The technical and collaborative efforts of the FBI, primarily through its CAST team, exemplified the advancements and applications of cellular data in modern investigations.

The sad resolution to Alex Hodgson Doughty’s disappearance brings a painful but necessary closure to his family and friends. The mystery of his disappearance, while partly solved, leaves a permanent mark on all who knew him and followed the case with hope.

As the investigation into Alex Hodgson Doughty’s last days closes, the thoughts of his loved ones turn to remembering his life, rather than the circumstances of his untimely departure.
