The Pentagon's specialized office tasked with investigating unidentified aerial phenomena has encountered a significant number of cases that defy conventional explanation.
According to a New York Post report, the Department of Defense's all-domain anomaly resolution office (AARO) has identified 21 UFO sightings from the past year that warrant additional investigation due to their unexplained characteristics.
Between May 1, 2023, and June 1, 2024, AARO received 757 reports of UAP sightings, with 485 being new incidents and the remainder dating back to 2021-2022. While most sightings occurred in airspace, 49 reports claimed observations in space, specifically at altitudes of 100 kilometers or higher.
AARO director Jon Kosloski emphasized that despite extensive investigation, the office has found no concrete evidence of extraterrestrial activity or advanced foreign technology. Of the 757 reported cases, only 118 have been fully resolved, with explanations ranging from balloons and birds to unmanned aerial vehicles.
The investigation process faces significant challenges due to limited access to timely sensor data. AARO is actively working with military and technical partners to enhance their sensor requirements and improve information-sharing processes to address these limitations.
The office currently has 444 cases pending investigation, in addition to the 21 cases designated for deeper analysis. Another 174 cases are approaching closure following the final review, with preliminary findings suggesting mundane explanations.
AARO has begun collaborating with U.S. allies to strengthen their ability to investigate Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP). The goal of this international effort is to improve information sharing and establish best practices for addressing UAP cases.
