Surrounded by his family, including his wife Makau Ariki and their children Whatumoana, Korotangi, and Ngawai Hono I Te Po, his death marks a significant cultural and national moment.

Tributes Pour in for a Revered Leader

Prominent global figures and local leaders have offered their condolences and shared reflections on Tuheitia's impactful reign. Among them, King Charles acknowledged his commitment to the prosperity and unity of the Maori people and their culture.

Former Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern praised Kiingi Tuheitia's advocacy for Maori rights and his efforts to foster a deeper understanding of New Zealand's shared history. She celebrated his dedication to justice and the prosperity of his people.

Kiingi Tuheitia, who ascended the throne in 2006, succeeding his mother, Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, was a pivotal figure in the Maori community. His role, though largely ceremonial, was crucial in representing the Maori perspective and engaging on national issues.

King's Efforts Toward National Unity Remembered

Kiingi Tuheitia extended his leadership beyond traditional ceremonies by actively influencing discussions on governmental policies to enhance unity and understanding across New Zealand. His efforts resonated across the political spectrum, fostering dialogue and collaboration among various stakeholders.

Tribal leaders will decide on a new king during his funeral, given the uncertainty about future succession. Kiingi Tuheitia was not just a leader but also a father and a visionary, deeply cherished for his life's devotion to his people's welfare and New Zealand's broader social landscape.
