Todd Lyons has been appointed as the new acting chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
According to The Hill, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced leadership changes at ICE, introducing new acting chief Todd Lyons and deputy director Madison Sheahan.
Todd Lyons brings a diverse background to his new role as the acting director of ICE. His career includes service in the Air Force, time as a law enforcement officer in Florida, and starting his tenure with ICE as an agent in Dallas in 2007. Before this appointment, he held the position of assistant director of field operations for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.
Madison Sheahan, appointed as the deputy director, also has a significant background in public service. She previously worked as an aide to Kristi Noem during her tenure as governor of South Dakota and served as the secretary of Louisiana’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
The reassignment of Caleb Vitello, the former acting director of ICE, marked a major turning point. He was reassigned on February 21 due to dissatisfaction from the Trump administration over the perceived slow pace of immigration enforcement, specifically regarding arrests and deportations.
Secretary Noem has voiced her commitment to robust immigration enforcement under her leadership. She remarked on Lyons and Sheahan’s roles and expectations, highlighting their proven track records as diligent and accountable leaders.
In her statement, Secretary Noem emphasized that these appointments are aligned with the American public's demand for decisive action on immigration issues.

The number of deportations each month is notably less than during the Biden administration's final year. This has prompted a shift in focus, now spearheaded by Caleb Vitello in a new capacity overseeing field and enforcement operations directly aimed at intensifying the efforts to locate, arrest, and deport illegal aliens.
Homeland Security has recently discovered two individuals within the organization who were leaking sensitive information. These "criminal leakers" have been referred to the Department of Justice for prosecution on felony charges.
This development has led to DHS introducing lie detector tests to deter and uncover any further unauthorized information disclosures.
In response to ongoing concerns about internal security, DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin conveyed the department’s readiness to implement polygraph tests. "Can, should, and will polygraph personnel," said McLaughlin, underscoring the determination to secure operational integrity within DHS.
