According to Fox News, Kash Patel, newly confirmed as the ninth FBI director, is set to take charge of the ATF as its acting director amid organizational changes.
Officials officially swore in Patel on Friday, marking the beginning of his tenure at the FBI’s helm. Following his FBI appointment, news emerged on Saturday from Fox News Digital, citing two anonymous sources, that Patel would also lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The appointment coincides with significant personnel changes at the ATF. Previously, Pamela Hicks served as the ATF Chief Counsel, a post she held since 2021 after serving as deputy chief counsel during President Donald Trump’s first administration.
Pamela Hicks confirmed her termination from the position in a LinkedIn post last Thursday. This move came just as former FBI Director Christopher Wray stepped down at the culmination of former President Joe Biden's term.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, who officially dismissed Hicks, has publicly criticized the previous management of the ATF, particularly its focus on gun owners. Her disapproval was voiced, stating, "These people were targeting gun owners. Not gonna happen under this administration."
Pamela Hicks also reflected on her dismissal from the Department of Justice. "Earlier today, I was served official notice from the Attorney General of the United States that I was being removed from my position as the Chief Counsel of ATF and my employment with the Department of Justice terminated," Hicks remarked.
Hicks had spent over two decades with the Department of Justice, expressing pride in her role and gratitude towards her colleagues. "Serving as ATF Chief Counsel has been the highest honor of my career and working with the people at ATF and throughout the Department has been a pleasure. I thank my colleagues for their friendship and partnership over the years," she stated.
