We are starting to see a major crackdown on the social media platform X for not caving to government demands.
Musk and RFK Jr. now seem to believe that could also happen here in the United States if Harris gets elected.
Talking Points…
- Brazil shuts down X
- Musk and RFK on Harris' plan
- Analysis
Over the weekend, reports started to surface that Brazil had padlocked X from operating in the country. This was a crusade that was started by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who had demanded that certain accounts be censored for allegedly spreading disinformation. X refused to comply, and then X was told that it needed to hire new and local legal representation. Again, X did not comply.
Justice de Moraes then asked the Brazilian Supreme Court to review the case, and the majority of the panel agreed that X would be shut down. This led to Apple and Android stores being put on the clock to stop offering X to Brazilians and the platforms blocking the use of X in Brazil. X will remain banned until Elon Musk complies with the court orders and pays the fines that have been issued, which are reportedly now exceeding $3 million.
Musk has been at war with Justice De Moraes, stating:
"He violated the constitution of Brazil repeatedly and egregiously, after swearing an oath to protect it."
As most of you are certainly aware by now, the government was found to be complicit in pressuring social media platforms to censor stories during the 2020 election and beyond. We know the FBI told X, then Twitter, that the Hunter Biden laptop story was likely Russian disinformation, so the story was muted. META CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent a letter to Congress last week admitting the same, as well as vowing not to ever do anything like that again.
With Elon Musk now in charge of X, we know that will not happen again, which is why Musk and Kennedy both believe that if Harris wins this election, she could try to shut down X rather than allow free speech on the platform. Harris was called out for criticizing social media platforms for allowing people like Trump for "directly speaking to millions and millions of people without any level of oversight and regulation," something she said "has to stop." Kennedy responded:
"Translation: If they don't police content to conform to government-approved narratives, they will be shut down."
Musk responded to Kennedy's post, stating:
"This is what she actually believes. Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and the Democratic Party (Kamala is just a puppet) wants to destroy it."
You guys already know that I believe our mainstream media has turned into another wing of the Democrat Party, at least for the most part. They get Democrat talking points, and they repeat them. They push back against everything that Republicans say while never challenging Democrats. There are still good and honest journalists on CNN, MSNBC, and major publications like the New York Times, but they are the exception, not the norm.
We have come to a time in this country where if the media does not fall in line with Democrats, the powers that be in the Democrat Party go after that outlet and journalist. So, yes, Harris winning and banning social media outlets that do not cave to government pressure is not exactly a conspiracy theory at this point.
