Demands for transparency are intensifying as conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and ex-CIA contractor Shawn Ryan challenge FBI Director Kash Patel over the handling of Jeffrey Epstein’s files. On Carlson’s latest podcast, the two unloaded on what they see as a lack of openness and a deepening sense that the system is stacked against ordinary Americans.

According to the Daily Mail, the pair took aim at Patel, Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, and other Trump insiders, questioning why crucial Epstein-related documents have not been fully released to the public and why deadlines for transparency have repeatedly been missed.

Their sharp criticism comes amid mounting calls from conservatives and the public for answers about the death of Epstein and the alleged protection of his high-profile associates. Many are now questioning whether the promised accountability will ever come.

Podcast sparks new outrage

Carlson, who left Fox News and now runs an independent podcast, joined forces with Ryan to dissect the ongoing Epstein controversy. Both men expressed frustration with what they called the “bungled” release of files from the White House under President Donald Trump, arguing that campaign promises to bring Epstein’s secrets to light have not been kept.

Both Ryan and Carlson zeroed in on the Justice Department’s failure to meet its own deadlines for releasing the full Epstein files. Patel and Bongino, who recently declared on air that Epstein “killed himself” after reviewing the file, became the focus of their ire. The pair argued that such statements raise more questions than they answer and have only added fuel to conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death.

Carlson did not hold back, asserting, “No matter who gets elected, you get the same foreign policy, you get the same economic policy, and the Epstein videos remain secret. That just shows you, our system [of democracy] has no effect on the actual system.” Ryan, meanwhile, joked sarcastically about being reassured by official statements about Epstein’s suicide.

Doubts about Patel and Bongino

Patel, who was elevated to FBI Director after working in Trump’s administration, has repeatedly said he would champion transparency regarding the Epstein investigation. Yet, his recent handling of the file release process has drawn intense fire from commentators and grassroots activists alike.

Carlson, while noting that he “loves Dan Bongino” and considers him a friend, openly mocked Bongino and Patel’s media appearance in which they claimed to have seen the complete Epstein file. This has only heightened suspicions, as many believe the files contain explosive information about Epstein’s network and his connections to global elites.

Epstein’s August 2019 death in a Manhattan jail has remained shrouded in suspicion, with critics questioning why the convicted sex trafficker was able to die before facing trial. The fact that none of Epstein’s alleged clients have ever been charged is a sticking point for many, including Shawn Ryan, who asked, “How do you charge a guy with sex trafficking when there’s no end users that have been charged?”

White House under scrutiny

The White House’s approach to the Epstein files was a major target for Carlson and Ryan, who accused officials of backtracking on earlier promises of full disclosure. In the run-up to the 2024 election, Patel and other Trump allies had pledged to reveal the “truth” about Epstein’s death and his network, but the actual release of documents has been underwhelming.

The first major dump of Epstein-related files in February was widely panned by conservatives for lacking any significant revelations. Attorney General Pam Bondi had promised “a lot of names, a lot of information,” but most of the material had already been circulated publicly and did not contain “bombshells.” Bondi later insisted a “truckload” of additional files would be released quickly, but nearly three months have passed without new disclosures.

Ryan suggested on Carlson’s podcast that Patel’s reluctance to release the files now that he is in power is evidence that “there is a lot more going on than the majority of people know about.” This sentiment is echoed by many on the right, who now question whether true accountability is possible.

Gorka ridiculed as frustration spreads

Carlson and Ryan also took aim at Sebastian Gorka, another prominent former Trump official, criticizing his social media antics and questioning his expertise. Ryan quipped that Gorka “has no idea what he’s doing,” while Carlson said Gorka is “not taken seriously by anybody, including by his wife.”

Carlson, laughing, said, “I think his job literally is just to sit on the internet and send fiery replies to people on X – I mean, I don’t think he actually has a job.”

Ryan shot back that this made Gorka “actually the perfect guy for the job,” underscoring the cynicism now common among Trump’s base about some of the administration’s key figures. Patel’s supporters argue that bureaucratic red tape has slowed the process and that the full truth will eventually come out. However, critics remain unconvinced and insist that powerful interests are still working to keep vital information from the public.
