Mia Love's treatment update: family shares difficult news

 March 4, 2025

Mia Love, a trailblazing figure in U.S. politics, faces a grave health challenge.

According to the Hill, Former U.S. Representative Mia Love's battle with glioblastoma has reached a critical phase, with treatments failing to halt the progression of her aggressive brain cancer, her family reports.

Diagnosed in 2022, Mia Love, the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, has defied the initial prognosis of up to 15 months.

Her journey included participation in a clinical trial for immunotherapy at Duke University's Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center. Despite the best available treatments, her condition has worsened significantly as of late August 2023.

Family Shifts Focus to Quality Time

Reacting to this difficult development, her family has decided to prioritize making the most of their time left together. Abigale Love, Mia's daughter, shared their new approach on social media. “We have shifted our focus from treatment to enjoying our remaining time with her. I am building an archive of special memories with Mia,” she said.

During her tenure, Mia Love represented Utah's 4th district, serving from 2014 until her narrow defeat in 2018.

Her political career was marked by her willingness to stand firm on her beliefs, including her disapproval of then-President Donald Trump's approach to immigration and his controversial remarks about other countries.

Love's Principles Stood Firm Against Pressure

In response to Trump's infamous "Access Hollywood" tape, Mia Love condemned his "behavior and bravado," calling them a "new low" for him. This stance characterized much of her career in which she frequently stood up against party lines in defense of her values and those of her constituents.

Trump later linked her electoral defeat to her refusal to align closely with him, commenting dismissively about her lack of support.

Despite the political fallout, her integrity in these instances remains a poignant part of her legacy, illustrating her commitment to principle over politics.

Support and Praise from Political Peers

Utah Governor Spencer Cox and Mia’s colleague Lee Zeldin expressed their profound respect following the announcement. “Mia Love has served Utah with integrity, and her strength and grace continue to inspire us," declared Governor Cox. Zeldin reflected on their shared beginnings in Congress, describing Mia as a courageous fighter cherished by many, including his family.

Mia Love herself has often spoken about the sources of her strength and resilience. “It hasn’t been an easy journey, but I share it because I want my journey to give others hope. Whether you are facing a cancer diagnosis yourself, or fighting a different battle, there is hope! For me, that hope comes from my faith and my family. Both have been a source of immeasurable strength, peace, love, and support. Every day, I thank God for my life and a family who give that life beauty and meaning,” she shared in a poignant testament to her enduring optimism and faith.

As Mia Love's chapter as a fighter, both in her political and personal life, nears its twilight, her story remains a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of resilience and principled leadership. Loved ones, supporters, and admirers continue to gather, reflecting on her significant impact and her indomitable spirit in the face of daunting odds.
