Former President Donald Trump is set to enjoy unrestricted access to his Facebook and Instagram accounts once again.
According to Breitbart, Meta, the parent company of these social platforms, has announced their decision to lift the imposed restrictions that limited Trump's engagement following the Capitol riots in January 2021.
The restrictions on Trump's accounts were unprecedented, designed specifically as a safeguard during heightened periods of civil unrest. This was after similar actions like bans and suspensions were executed by other social media giants including Twitter and YouTube in the wake of the disturbances at the Capitol.
Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, emphasized the gravity of the circumstances surrounding the restrictions. "In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for president on the same terms," stated Clegg, explaining the rationale behind the decision to reestablish full access to Trump's accounts.
These developments come after Elon Musk reinstated Trump's Twitter account in November 2022, although Trump has scarcely used the platform since.
