Mental Health Woes Spike Among Democrats Post-Election

 February 8, 2025

Post-election blues hit hard among Democrat citizens.

According to Breitbart, Dr. Glenn Burnett, a Wyoming internal medicine physician, reports significant mental health challenges among his patients following the November election loss by Democrats.

According to Dr. Burnett, many of his patients are experiencing a spectrum of symptoms including depression, anxiety, insomnia, as well as chest pain and pressure, triggered by the recent electoral outcomes. The situation echoes a broader national concern about political events deeply impacting personal lives.

Political views trigger health issues

These symptoms are not just isolated health issues; they relate directly to political apprehensions. Specifically, patients are reacting with intense fear and anxiety toward President Donald Trump's administration and its potential implications.

Dr. Burnett has witnessed an uptick in such cases after the Democrats' loss to Trump, marking a distinct increase compared to the stress levels noted during Joe Biden's tenure.

In discussions with journalist Mark Halprin, Dr. Burnett expressed that the severity of these reactions has intensified. "When Joe Biden was president, I had all kinds of stuff from the other side, but it has been extremely intense ... after the election," he commented.

Detoxing from political news

To combat these overwhelming feelings, Dr. Burnett suggests a simple, yet potentially effective remedy: a detox from political news. He encourages his patients to "turn their computers off and turn their televisions off,” emphasizing the need for a break from continual news exposure which may be exacerbating their stress.

Dr. Burnett prioritizes the mental well-being of his patients over continued immersion in potentially distressing political narratives. He also stresses the importance of healing personal relationships, which might be strained due to political disagreements. He believes familial reconciliation should come before political malignancies.

Journalist Mark Halprin's insights forecast these phenomena; he had predicted a nationwide mental health crisis dependent on the election's result. "I think tens of millions of people will question their connection to the nation, their connection to other human beings, their connection to their vision of what their future for them and their children could be like."

Halprin explained during an October interview with Tucker Carlson. He anticipated widespread societal impacts, including workplace trauma, increased alcoholism, and a rise in broken marriages due to political unrest.

Reluctance towards medication

Despite the troubling symptoms his patients display, Dr. Burnett is cautious about the use of medication. He perceives these manifestations largely as expressions of grief rather than conditions necessitating pharmaceutical intervention. "I am hesitant to give people medication for this because I think it’s a grief problem, mainly," Dr. Burnett elaborated on his treatment philosophy.

The doctor's approach points to a deeper issue: the intertwining of political climates and personal health, suggesting an evolving challenge for healthcare providers in politically polarized times.

In summing up the current environment and the reactions of his patients, Dr. Burnett reiterates the confluence of fear, anxiety, and physical symptoms tied directly to political developments.

His clinical observations underline the profound impact political events can have on individual health, necessitating a broader discourse on managing such stress in a divided political climate.
