We have seen very little of Melania Trump since Donald Trump left office in 2021, but that is about to change.
Donald Trump’s secret weapon is back in play, as Melania co-hosted a big event for Trump on Saturday at Mar-a-Lago.
Talking Points…
- Missing Melania
- She’s back
- Analysis
For all intents and purposes, when Donald Trump left office in January 2021, that was the last we had seen of Melania. She was not making public appearances with Trump, attending any of his court cases, and not on the campaign trail. There were a few sightings here and there, but she had more or less become a recluse in the aftermath of being raked over the coals for every word and every outfit she wore by the mainstream media.
Donald Trump eventually addressed this, saying that Melania was a very private person and did not want to be bothered. This was the truth, as even in her heyday as a supermodel, Melania never really sought attention the way we see other models do when they come from out in front of the lens.
Rumors really started to fly when Melania Trump was missing from Mar-a-Lago Christmas photos. Melania was missing from all the family photos, but Trump later explained that Melania was taking care of her ill mother. The same happened during Trump’s big New Year’s Eve party. Melania’s mother passed soon after that, but that really had rumors flying, especially when Melania refused to allow Donald Trump to travel with her in her car after the funeral.
The first time we really saw Trump and Melania together and in good spirits was during the Florida primary election day. Melania was once again all smiles and joking with the media. At the time, I reported that this was a great sign for Trump on numerous fronts, mostly because it would finally quell the rumors that there were marital problems between the two of them.
During the primary day, Melania teased the media that something was coming soon, and we just found out what that “something” was. Melania hosted an event Saturday night at Mar-a-Lago for the Log Cabin Republicans. The event quickly sold out at about $50,000 per ticket. Among the high-profile guests were Caitlyn Jenner, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Elizabeth Ailes.
The benefit for Trump is that Melania can host events where people would look at Trump funny or not think he was sincere. In this case, the event was to raise awareness among the LGBTQ+ community regarding Donald Trump’s record and his goals. To that point, former ambassador to Germany and Donald Trump’s Acting Director of National Intelligence, Richard Grenell, the country’s first openly gay cabinet member, presided over the event and introduced Melania to the crowd. One attendee noted:
“Grenell unveiled [Melania’s] leadership role in what will be an unprecedented outreach initiative to gay and lesbian voters… the most significant of any Republican presidential candidate in American history.”
Former president of the Intrepid Museum, Bill White, and his husband, Bryan Eure, added:
“The fact that our former (and future) First Lady Melania Trump chose Log Cabin’s LGBT event as her first campaign event speaks volumes about her, and negates so much we’ve all been fed in the MSM [mainstream media].
“Gay voters are no longer one issue voters — we got legally married almost 13 years ago — we are grateful to Melania Trump for her leadership, and we embrace her unity message to save our great country this November.”
There is no way to overstate the importance of Melania being back out on the trail for Donald Trump. Conservatives have always loved this woman, and, as noted above, she can make appearances and drive fundraising in areas where the left would mock Trump or doubt his sincerity on the issues. When you also consider the nature of the charges in the Alvin Bragg case, this is huge for Trump to have Melania supporting him.
