Melania Trump Abortion Stance Creating Waves

 October 4, 2024

Over the last few weeks, Melania Trump has been all over social media and has even done a few interviews to promote her new memoir.

In that book, however, she makes a pro-abortion statement, and it is creating waves in the political world.

Melania Doubles Down on Abortion Rights

Snippets of Melania's book have already been leaked to the media, and the passage on abortion is really getting some attention, and for good reason. Melania's stance was very much in line with the liberal stance on this particular issue. In her book, she wrote:

"It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government.

"These situations with significant moral implications weigh heavily on the woman and her family and deserve our empathy. Consider, for example, the complexity inherent in the decision of whether the mother should risk her own life to give birth."

Reactions to her statements started to blow up all over the media, but Melania did not back down from her stance. Taking advantage of the media buzz, Melania then posted a video on her social media accounts doubling down on this to explain what "My Body, My Choice" really means. She stated:

"Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard.

"Without a doubt there is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth. Individual freedom."

The Reaction

This election is about as fragile as can be for Trump right now. He was blindsided this week by the release of the Jack Smith filing outlining the charges against him. And now he has to deal with the backlash of Melania being pro-abortion. Pro-life advocates who will play a key role in getting Trump elected were not happy at all with the statements by Melania. For instance, Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, stated:

"Melania Trump's support of abortion is anti-feminist and clearly outside the teaching of our Catholic faith. She is wrong. Abortion ends an innocent life & is the opposite of empowerment, as women are told they can't balance the gift of children and career, so they have to pick one.

"Christ helps us prosper at home, at school, at work, as mothers, and even as role models. What a lost opportunity to inspire a generation of young women. I won't be buying Melania's book."

Lila Rose, founder of leading pro-life advocacy group Live Action, also reacted, stating:

"Who is this Melania Trump, or Kamala Harris? Functionally the same exact position on abortion."

Some in the media believe Melania did this on purpose to keep Trump out of the White House. For instance, "The View" co-host Sonny Hostin stated:

"I think she hates him. Okay, so we can all agree that. That's a given. I also think that she wants to take him out. She does not want to be the First Lady any more. She doesn't want to be the First Lady.

"She destroyed the Rose Garden. Who hates Christmas? Melania Trump hates Christmas. She doesn't want to decorate for Christmas. She doesn't want anything to do with him. She doesn't want to sleep in the same room with him. She can't tolerate him."

A lot of what Hostin stated is absolute and utter garbage, but the leftists in this country follow that show religiously, so her comments will hit home. And for the record, Melania did not ruin the Rose Garden, and she does not hate Christmas. This is just more gaslighting by Hostin to get people to hate Melania. Former Trump administration official Matt Mowers disagreed with Hostin, believing this could actually help Trump. He stated:

"In this case, Melania might have just wanted to make her position known and so that is I think the reason she did it. If you look at the impact it has, I think it actually in some ways helps Donald Trump, I think it makes him more relatable. I can tell you, I don't agree with my wife on every issue. She agrees with me on even fewer issues and so I think this is actually pretty common.

"In fact, there's been some studies coming out lately on the difference of men and women going to vote this year compared to 2020. In 2020, they're all sitting at the kitchen table looking over each other's shoulders filling out the ballots, this year they're going to the polling place on their own … So I think this actually broadens Donald Trump's appeal potentially."

Analysis

Donald Trump does not and cannot control Melania; he never did. She is her own woman with her own beliefs. Honestly, it took a lot of guts to come out and say what she said, knowing the backlash it would create. Having said that, this is going to be another headache for Trump, and I am sure it will stress a relationship many in the media already believe is hanging by a thread. This book and the fact that Melania has not attended Trump's trials or been on his campaign, at least to me, say quite a bit.
