We have not seen much of Melania Trump during this election cycle, which has created lots of speculation about the state of their marriage and whether she supports him in this election.
It would appear that she put all those concerns to rest with a great interview on "The Five" this week.
Talking Points...
- Rumors are flying
- Melania breaks silence
- Analysis
The media feasts on Melania Trump, which explains why she has pulled back from the public eye since leaving the White House. That was almost to be expected, but we did not expect her to disappear from Trump's side. I fully understood why Melania did not accompany Trump to his trial, as I cannot blame her for not wanting to relive the whole hush-money ordeal again. But when she did not show up for rallies and was not joining him for many fundraising events, it raised a lot of questions.
Then came the new book, "Melania," where Melania came out to say she supports "My Body, My Choice." This is clearly not a conservative stance, but the book's timing really created a buzz. There was considerable speculation that she mentioned that issue to sabotage Trump with pro-life groups. And while there was pushback, it was not quite what I think most people were expecting.
I have never hidden my affinity for Melania. I thought she got a raw deal as our First Lady, especially by the media. They had the chance to have a legitimate supermodel grace the covers of magazines, and they boycotted her. Not only that, but the media viciously went after a woman who I have never heard say a bad word about anyone. That changed a bit over the last two weeks, with Melania starting to do more media, which included doing "The Five" this week.
Melania was asked if she was worried about her husband's safety with all the negative rhetoric that surrounds him. She responded:
"I think, you know, when they call him, he's a threat to democracy, let's ask ourselves who is really a threat to democracy. They are ongoing with lawfare against the former president, as well as, you know, trying to get him off of the voting ballots and trying to silence him.
"So, yes, of course, I was always afraid [of] what can happen and that they continue with that kind of language [that] is just – it's a toxic, toxic atmosphere."
When she was asked about what she would say to women who are on the fence regarding voting for Trump over Harris, she responded:
"Well, we could see in the four years that he was there, [the] country was in great shape. [The] country was safe. [The] country was prosperous. And he would bring that back."

Trump needs this back on the campaign trail over the next month. This woman is not only likable but also genuine and lovable and will present a softer side to Trump that he needs to lure in more voters. This is something that has always frustrated me about Trump because I grew up in that area, and I met Trump several times at his casinos and public events, and that tough-guy persona he presents is not necessarily who he is in real life. If Trump could make himself more likable, this election would be over, and Melania helps make that happen. That is now especially true because it seems like she is excited about the idea of returning to the White House and resuming her initiatives.
