Governor Sununu Encourages Change in Party Leadership, Singles Out McConnell

 September 1, 2023

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is a bit of an odd egg.

He is a beloved governor of a small state that virtually nobody knows.

He is trying to change that, however, and now he is finally calling out leadership in the GOP, specifically Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

Talking Points…

  • Who is Chris Sununu?
  • The problems with GOP leadership in Congress
  • What Sununu says about leadership
  • My Two Cents…

Chris Sununu

Sununu entered politics in 2011, serving in the New Hampshire Executive Council.

He won the governor’s mansion in the 2016 election, and he has been there since.

New Hampshire’s governor only serves two-year terms, so there was speculation that Sununu would enter the presidential race, but he realized his profile is not quite large enough to go up against Trump, so he decided against it.

Now serving his fourth term, Sununu has stated that he will not seek a fifth term.

He has been very vocal against Donald Trump, so I think we can expect to see him raise his profile over the next four years and be a player in the 2028 election.

GOP Leadership

GOP leadership is an absolute mess right now, but our elected representatives chose to ignore our wishes and put the same people in place again.

McConnell in the Senate, McCarthy in the House, and McDaniel at the RNC.

All these three have managed to do since 2020 was lose a presidential election, turn the Senate over to Democrats, and blow what was quite possibly the opportunity of the century in 2022.

They are arrogant, all three of them, simply because they know that unless they want to step down, their positions are secure.

It just proves that We the People literally have no real say in our government.

Sununu Says…

Sununu called for change, but he was pretty delicate about it, a bit too delicate for my liking.

He stroked McConnell when he has been an absolute disaster since 2016.

Sununu stated

“Senator McConnell has done a phenomenal job. I think as you said rightly so it’s all concern. Everyone wants the best for him. This is a guy who works incredibly hard, but when you have multiple episodes like this, his age is involved and there’s something else there. As the doctor just mentioned two episodes in five weeks. So I think he and his staff are going to have to have a hard discussion about it.

“Let’s remember this isn’t just Leader McConnell, obviously we have great concern for him, we have the senator from California.

“Obviously age is playing a role in Washington right now and not in a positive way, unfortunately. So there’s just an opportunity here to say, okay, no hard feelings, it’s health, age, we’ve got to move you out of a leadership position and bring another voice in.

“There’s lots of folks that can do these jobs. And these folks have done a very good job for their constituents and the country, but we say thank you and bring in some new leadership.”

That was kind, but in reality, leadership has been a disaster over the last decade, and we need younger faces that are ready to get dirty… and the people in place right now are not willing to do that.

My Two Cents…

If you have followed my reports, you know I cannot stand a single aspect of GOP leadership right now.

After the 2022 election, we needed to clean house, and we all expressed our opinions on this, clearly loud enough for members of Congress to hear.

But what happened…

McDaniel was given another term leading the RNC, even endorsed by Donald Trump.

McConnell literally laughed in our faces over the calls for change, insisting that he had the votes, and he was right. The Senate overwhelmingly voted him back into leadership.

McCarthy has been okay as Speaker, but I wanted to see new leadership because other than his fundraising, what has he really done to push our cause forward?

Sununu got it right, but I just wish he would have done it without the ego-stroking. We need change, and we need it ASAP or Democrats will continue to roll right over us.
