Letitia James Ripped by Legal Expert Over Trump Prosecution

 October 5, 2023

New York Attorney General Letitia James campaigned on going after Trump.

She is now taking fire from legal experts, even some more liberal journalists, over the aggressive prosecution of Trump.

Talking Points…

  • Letitia James' campaign promise
  • What her critics are saying
  • My Two Cents…

The Campaign Promise

Letitia James ran a masterful campaign in that she struck while the iron was hot.

When she was running for office, she knew the hatred for Trump in New York was at an all-time high, so that became her campaign focus. Her campaign was never about bringing hardened criminals to justice, but only about taking down Donald Trump.

At one point, she stated:

"I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, and every dealing, demanding truthfulness at every turn."

Jonathan Turley

George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, in my opinion, is one of the most respected voices in law.

I have found him to always be fair, even when I don't like what he has to say.

Turley did not hold anything back in critiquing James on the prosecution of Donald Trump.

He stated:

"[N]ot mentioning what he might be charged with, [James said] I'm just going to charge him with something.

"That should be an embarrassment to the entire New York bar. I think that [Alvin] Bragg should be an embarrassment. His case is, in my view, just ridiculous. It barely holds together."

This is and always has been about revenge for Democrats, something else that Turley noted in his analysis.

He stated:

"She's really developed the signature that she will use all of the levers of her office to go against political opponents."

I have even seen pundits on more liberal networks accusing James of going too far, seeking harsher penalties than she ever would have against someone with a name other than Trump.

My Two Cents…

If you look at case histories, this prosecution is way over the line compared to other cases.

But, as I noted above, this is about revenge and making a statement, not justice.

This goes beyond James, as we have seen an utterly ridiculous summary ruling by Judge Engoron to revoke Trump's license and put his New York business in receivership over a property valuation of Mar-a-Lago that is absolutely ludicrous.

If there was ever a case of the fix being in, this is it.

Sadly, Trump will probably lose this case because Engoron has made up his mind and is aggressively shutting down Trump's attorneys at every level.

But, I firmly believe that Trump will eventually win this case on appeal, even if he has to take the case to the Supreme Court to do it.

You guys know me well enough to know that I do not pull punches. If I thought Trump had committed fraud or the evidence that we have seen to this point showed that he had committed fraud, I would say exactly that, but I have not seen it yet.

What I do see is an activist prosecutor who is trying to deliver on a promise and a left-wing judge who wants his name in the papers for crushing Trump's finances… nothing more.
