LAPD Investigates Early Morning Alert At VP Kamala Harris' Brentwood Home Amid Wildfires

 January 12, 2025

Los Angeles police were called to investigate a potential burglary at the home of Vice President Kamala Harris in California.

Early Sunday, officers responded to a reported incident at the Brentwood residence during the ongoing Palisades Fire evacuations, Fox News reported.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrived at Harris' property on Bundy Drive, north of Sunset Drive, following a distress call about a potential burglary at approximately 4:40 a.m., as stated by local news station KTLA. This incident occurred amidst stringent security measures due to the residence's high-profile nature and the imposition of a local curfew.

Burglary Scare During Fire Zone Evacuations

The LAPD detained two men during the enforced curfew period from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. However, officers did not find them on the Vice President's property. Local station KNBC reported that investigators found no evidence of the men entering the property, prompting their subsequent release.

Authorities initially held the men for violating the curfew but soon released them after determining they had committed no crime. This decision followed verification that the two had not engaged in any illegal activities related to the property.

One law enforcement source told KNBC regarding the detained individuals:

They likely had no idea where they were.

Security and Wildfire Challenges

The U.S. Secret Service secures the residence with support from the California Highway Patrol and the LAPD's Metropolitan Division, Dignitary Protection Detail. This high level of security protects the Vice President’s home around the clock.

At the same time, the Palisades Fire raised significant concern in the region, with firefighters containing only 11% after it burned over 23,000 acres. The Los Angeles County medical examiner reported an increase in the death toll from the California wildfires, confirming at least 16 fatalities, including five from the Palisades Fire alone.

Forecasted high winds threatened to complicate firefighting efforts further, intensifying risks in the area and demanding continuous vigilance from emergency services.

Community Impact of Wildfires and Security Alerts

The combined challenges of wildfire management and security alerts in such high-profile areas underscore the complexity of emergency response activities. The community remains on high alert as authorities balance these dual demands.

This scenario highlights the importance of robust security and emergency preparedness, especially in areas prone to natural disasters and housing national leaders. Both the LAPD's quick response to the potential threat and their ability to assess and de-escalate the situation reflect well on their training and readiness.

As the region continues to battle the devastating wildfires, residents and officials alike hope for a swift resolution to the fires and a return to normalcy. This incident at Vice President Kamala Harris' home serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced during such crises.
