LAPD Arrests Two Over Assault On '90210' Actor Ian Ziering

 May 22, 2024

A New Year's Eve altercation on Hollywood Boulevard involving actor Ian Ziering and minibike riders ended with arrests months later.

Fox News reported that the LAPD has made arrests in connection with the alleged assault of '90210' star Ian Ziering by minibike riders on December 31.

The incident, which unfolded in broad daylight, started when Ian Ziering, famed for his role in Beverly Hills, 90210, confronted a minibike rider about possible damage to his vehicle.

The situation escalated quickly as three to four additional riders teamed up, turning the confrontation into a physical attack.

Hollywood Altercation Captures Public Attention

Following the attack, Ziering and his daughter were fortunate to escape without harm despite the chaos. He later shared the experience on social media, revealing the distressing nature of the event.

In response to this incident, on May 21, the LAPD took action by arresting 20-year-old Jacob Esteban Hernandez and 40-year-old Angie Teresa Guizar. Hernandez faces charges of felony vandalism, while Guizar is charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities were aided by video evidence that caught the entire ordeal. TMZ released footage soon after the event, showing the confrontation between Ziering and the group of minibike riders.

Concerns Over Street Safety and Law Enforcement

Ian Ziering expressed dissatisfaction with the prevailing street disturbances and the initial police response.

He articulated the event's impact on public order and safety in his statement:

I experienced an alarming incident involving a group of individuals on mini bikes. While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation. As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient.

Law enforcement's response was also detailed in an LAPD press release, which stated, "The confrontation began between the victim and one of the minibike riders over possible damage to his vehicle. Three to four additional minibike riders jumped in and assaulted the motorist."

Legal Proceedings and Public Reaction Await

With two suspects now in custody, the legal proceedings will likely reveal more about the motivations and circumstances surrounding this attack. The incident again draws attention to public safety issues, especially concerning unregulated groups causing disruptions in busy city areas.

As legal processes unfold, there will be more discernment into how cities can manage spontaneous group behaviors that threaten public safety and seem to test police responsiveness to citizen calls during emergencies.

This incident highlights challenges in urban public safety and calls attention to citizen expectations of law enforcement efficiency. Public reaction remains mixed, with some siding with Ziering, condemning the recklessness displayed by minibike riders, and others calling for a balanced discourse on street activities and policing.
