Lancaster County Probes Suspicious Voter Registration Forms Before Election

 November 4, 2024

Local election officials in Pennsylvania face a critical investigation into potentially fraudulent voter applications just before the upcoming election. The probe centers on thousands of suspicious registration forms that have raised concerns about election integrity.

According to Fox News, Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D'Agostino provided an update Monday on the investigation of 2,500 voter registration and mail-in ballot applications that were flagged as suspicious last month.

The investigation has revealed that while 57% of the applications have been confirmed as valid, 17% were determined to be fraudulent. The remaining 26% of applications are still under review, with officials working to verify their authenticity. These forms were identified during routine processing when staff noticed irregularities such as false names, duplicate handwriting patterns, and incorrect identifying information.

Investigation Process Reveals Multiple Concerns

County officials immediately notified both the Pennsylvania Department of State and the state attorney general's office upon discovering the suspicious forms. The Lancaster County Board of Elections and local District Attorney's Office have since been collaborating on the investigation.

D'Agostino addressed the ongoing nature of the investigation during Monday's press conference. Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D'Agostino stated:

Those other two buckets are going to change, quite frankly, based on the continuing investigation. It is a painstaking process.

The applications in question span across various locations in Lancaster County and are not limited to any particular political party. Officials have already contacted individuals whose applications may have been affected by the investigation.

State Officials Reinforce Election Security Measures

Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry has taken steps to reassure voters about the integrity of the upcoming election. The state's law enforcement agencies are actively investigating organizations that might be responsible for submitting fraudulent applications.

Henry emphasized that the investigation focuses specifically on registration forms rather than actual ballots. The Attorney General's office is coordinating with county officials to address the situation while maintaining voter confidence.

In a separate but related development, officials in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, have launched their own investigation into approximately 30 suspicious voter registration and mail-in ballot applications. This smaller probe demonstrates the widespread vigilance of election officials across the state.

Maintaining Electoral Integrity Through Verification

The Pennsylvania Department of State has praised Lancaster County's diligence in identifying potential fraud. Their swift action in alerting law enforcement demonstrates the effectiveness of existing safeguards within the electoral system.

State officials maintain that multiple security measures are in place to protect election integrity. These preventive measures have successfully identified suspicious applications before they could impact the voting process.

The Department of State has emphasized that despite these challenges, Pennsylvania voters can remain confident in the security and fairness of the upcoming election. The ongoing investigation showcases the commitment of election officials to maintaining accurate voter rolls.

Inside The Investigation Findings

The discovery of fraudulent applications represents a significant concern for election officials, with the confirmed 17% fraudulent rate translating to hundreds of invalid submissions. This systematic review process has proven essential in maintaining the accuracy of voter registration records. The investigation continues to evolve as officials examine the remaining unverified applications. The thorough verification process includes checking identifying information, handwriting analysis, and cross-referencing with existing voter records.
