Grammy-winning singer Lady Gaga has welcomed her first baby with fiancé Michael Polansky, capping a five-year relationship the 40-year-old star once said was "the missing piece" in her life.
Multiple outlets confirmed the news after photos surfaced showing the singer carrying an infant in a sling while walking in California, Breitbart reported. Neither Gaga nor Polansky has commented publicly. The child's name, sex, and date of birth remain undisclosed.
Fox News Digital reported that People and Page Six both confirmed the birth. Fox News said it reached out to Gaga's representatives for comment but did not indicate receiving a response.
Gaga and Polansky were first linked romantically on New Year's Eve 2019, when they were spotted kissing in Las Vegas. By February 2020, Gaga made the relationship public on Instagram, posting a yacht photo with Polansky and the caption, "We had so much fun in Miami."
Polansky proposed in April 2024. Gaga confirmed the engagement publicly that July. Two months later, the couple made their red carpet debut together at the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of "Joker: Folie à Deux."
The singer had been candid for years about her desire to have children. In a March 2020 interview with InStyle, she reflected on pregnancy and parenthood:
"Isn't it incredible what we can do? We can hold a human inside and grow it. Then it comes out, and it's our job to keep it alive."
In a September 2024 Vogue interview, she credited Polansky with filling a void in her personal life.
"The missing piece in my life was having real love."
By March 2025, she told the New York Times she was wrestling with the tension between her career and her hopes for a family:
"I'm also kind of at war with myself sometimes as I get ready to, hopefully, become a mom soon. Like, today is wonderful, but the whole day has revolved around me. There's an incredible amount of narcissism in this. How do I live a life where I'm passionate about my art while also making more space for other things?"
She also expressed a desire to shield future children from the pressures of fame, saying she wanted "to not force my children to live a life that they are not choosing" and to "give them space to discover who they are on their own."
Gaga wrapped up her Mayhem Ball tour in April and made what appears to have been her last public appearance in May, attending the premiere of "Apple Music Live: Lady Gaga MAYHEM Requiem" at the Grove in Los Angeles. She stayed largely out of public view after that, until the photos with her newborn surfaced.
For a performer who has spent nearly two decades under relentless public scrutiny, the quiet exit was notable. No baby shower spectacle. No social media announcement. Just a woman carrying her child in a sling on a walk in California.
In an era when celebrity births double as brand events, there is something refreshingly normal about keeping the biggest moment of your life between you and the people who matter.
