Kim Kardashian says she spent five years mostly single healing after her split from Kanye West before dating Lewis Hamilton, putting her kids and own recovery first.
The 45-year-old reality star and Skims founder told the Times’ Style Magazine she “needed to heal” and “was really single for five years” after her high-profile 2021 split from West, with only a brief exception for a nine-month romance with comedian Pete Davidson in 2022.
Page Six detailed her comments on why she held off on opening up again before her relationship with the Formula 1 driver became public.
Kardashian called the break from dating “great,” saying she “could focus on [her] kids and projects that [she] really wanted to be involved with.” She shares four children with West: North, 13; Saint, 10; Chicago, 8; and Psalm, 7.
"I really felt no rush. Like, I really didn’t feel empty. I felt like I needed my time."
She added that she hoped to “completely heal and just work on” herself. “I wasn’t ready to open up,” she continued. “I really wasn’t even thinking about it. The universe works in your favour when you just allow it to.”
Kardashian and Hamilton have known each other since 2014. They hard-launched the romance in February at a Super Bowl outing in Southern California, where the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots.
In July, Hamilton posted Instagram photos of the couple during a family getaway, packing on the PDA, with a caption urging followers to “hold your people close.”
In August he shared intimate, never-before-seen date photos captioned “Resting, restoring, recharging.” Around the same stretch, Kardashian posted a PDA mirror selfie in a pink Gucci bikini as Hamilton reached around her waist.
Davidson, 32, dated Kardashian for nine months in 2022. In a Variety interview last month he described what it was like inside that famous household.
"Look, man, that’s a really tough atmosphere if you’re not game."
“One of the things I love about Kim and that whole family is they’re like, ‘This is what we do,’” he added. “I found that very attractive and mature.”
Kris Jenner, in a September 2025 Vogue cover story, told her daughter that “the coming years [would be the best of [her] life.]”
