Kardashian turns real California bar flop into Season 2 punchline

Kim Kardashian jokes about her real California bar exam failure in the new “All’s Fair” Season 2 trailer, a self-deprecating line that left her co-stars grimacing on screen.

In the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s legal drama, released Oct. 7, Kardashian’s character Allura Grant answers a mentee’s good news with a blunt admission. Teyana Taylor’s Milan says she recently passed the state exam. Kardashian replies that she did not clear it on the first attempt.

Page Six reported the quip lands amid grimaces from co-stars Naomi Watts, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, and Niecy Nash-Betts. Season 2 premieres on Hulu on Nov. 4.

The joke tracks her actual record. Kardashian is not a licensed attorney. She has spent years on California’s non-traditional path to the profession while starring as a divorce lawyer on television.

Real failure, scripted punchline

She shared news of her California Bar Exam failure on Nov. 8 after the November 2025 administration. In a December interview with Time magazine, she said the experience broke her “confidence.”

By May, insiders claimed she would not sit for the exam again until 2027. That timeline sits beside the new trailer’s light treatment of the same setback.

"I didn’t pass on my first try,"

Kardashian’s line in the Season 2 preview puts the flop on the record inside the show itself. The series already faced tough notices. Season 1 drew 3.2 million views globally in its first three days on Hulu, yet met abysmal reviews, including a 0 Rotten Tomatoes score in related coverage.

Sarcasm after the critics piled on

Shortly after last year’s premiere, Kardashian posted a slideshow of negative reviews on Instagram. Her caption dripped with irony.

“Have you tuned in to the most critically acclaimed show of the year!?!?!?”

Guest stars for Season 2 include former “Real Housewives of New York” personality Dorinda Medley and actress Denise Richards. The plot promises a “shocking revelation” that threatens the fictional firm.

Years on the apprentice track

Kardashian’s legal effort did not begin in a standard law school classroom. She announced she was studying law in a 2019 Vogue interview. The spark, she has said, came after she advocated in 2018 for the release of former federal prisoner Alice Marie Johnson.

She failed California’s “baby bar” four times before passing in December 2021. She then completed a six-year legal apprenticeship through California’s Law Office Study Program in 2025. That route lets candidates train in a law office instead of following the usual campus path. It still requires passing the bar to practice.

She has not cleared that final gate. The trailer now uses the miss as character banter while she continues to play a polished on-screen attorney.

Hollywood can script a win in a single take. The California bar does not grade on fame, screen time, or a witty trailer line.
