Judge Juan Merchan is no longer presiding over Steve Bannon's criminal trial regarding the "We Build the Wall" fundraising campaign.
According to the Washington Examiner, Judge Merchan has officially stepped down due to conflicting commitments with another trial.
With Bannon's trial looming on the horizon, the courts have named Judge April Newbauer to take over. Merchan's schedule necessitated this change in judiciary personnel, as he is set to oversee a multi-defendant trial starting on September 16, 2024.
Now leading the charge, Judge Newbauer is not without her spotlight in the legal arena. She previously made headlines with a highly scrutinized bail decision concerning an individual who later faced serious criminal charges.
A prominent conservative figure, Steve Bannon, finds himself entangled in serious allegations.
