Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett sparked controversy after allegedly bypassing passengers with disabilities while boarding a flight at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

According to Fox News, House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain shared photos on social media showing Crockett, accompanied by a police escort, boarding ahead of other passengers, including two individuals in wheelchairs, on a Sunday flight to Washington, D.C.

The incident drew immediate criticism from Republican lawmakers and social media users. McClain posted the photos on her personal campaign account, accusing the Texas Democrat of abusing her power and making disabled passengers wait while she boarded first.

Police escort sparks boarding gate controversy

A source familiar with the situation revealed that Crockett was the first passenger to board the Delta Air Lines flight after the crew. The congresswoman reportedly approached the gate with a police officer and what appeared to be a staff member before having her boarding pass scanned.

Delta Air Lines' policy allows pre-boarding for passengers requiring assistance, active duty military members, and Delta 360 Members. The U.S. Department of Transportation regulations specifically state that airlines must permit self-identified passengers with disabilities who need additional time or assistance to board before other passengers.

When contacted about the incident, Crockett's chief of staff declined to comment on the matter. Delta Air Lines has not responded to requests for comment.

Escalating tensions between Trump and Crockett

The airport incident occurred amid growing political tensions between Crockett and President Donald Trump. The Texas representative, who currently serves as vice ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, is reportedly seeking the chair position of the committee.

Trump appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, where he criticized Crockett as a "low IQ person" and described her as the future of what he called a Democratic Party in "disarray."

Crockett responded to Trump's remarks through social media, suggesting that his frequent mentions of her name indicated fear of "smart, bold Black women telling the truth and holding you accountable."

Controversial college speech adds to public scrutiny

The same day as the airport incident, Crockett delivered a commencement speech at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi, where she made references to the 2023 Montgomery riverboat brawl. Her comments drew criticism from conservatives, including Senator Mike Lee.

During her address to the historically Black college's graduating class, Crockett said:

There are people that are going to tell you that there is not a table in which there is not a seat for you, but I am here to remind you of Montgomery and those folding chairs. Let me tell you that we know how to use a chair, whether we pulling it up or we doing something else with it.

The speech referenced the viral incident from August 2023, where a group of White boaters attacked a Black riverboat captain, and a white folding chair became a symbol of resistance when used in the captain's defense.
