According to Fox News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened to renew hostilities by Saturday noon if Hamas fails to release all Israeli hostages, echoing U.S. President Donald Trump's stringent demands.
Following an announcement by Hamas regarding their postponement of releasing Israeli hostages, Prime Minister Netanyahu convened the Israeli security cabinet. The cabinet expressed unanimous support for Trump’s demands, stating a direct threat to end the ceasefire.
Netanyahu clearly stated his stance by announcing military preparations to possibly resume combat if the hostages were not released by the set deadline. This escalation follows as authorities freed three hostages on February 8, 2025, after holding them since October 2023.
Donald Trump has firmly threatened to let "all hell break out" if the remaining hostages are not released by the upcoming deadline. The President has been vocal in reiterating this position, with the hopes that his ultimatum will compel Hamas to act swiftly.
Describing his view on the situation, the Israeli Prime Minister stated:
The decision I passed in the Cabinet unanimously is this: If Hamas does not return our hostages by Saturday noon – the ceasefire will end, and the IDF will resume intense combat until Hamas is decisively defeated.
The ceasefire agreement, initiated six weeks ago, aimed to facilitate an exchange of 33 hostages for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. To date, five swaps have successfully occurred, interspersed with moments of tension and accusations from both sides.
Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida accused Israel of multiple breaches of the ceasefire terms, which allegedly included delays and direct attacks, affecting the displaced populations in northern Gaza.
Israel, however, maintains that its operations are in compliance with established agreements and that Hamas is delaying the process.
