House Oversight Seeks Interview With Biden’s Doctor

 July 8, 2024

The House Oversight Committee has taken a significant step in its investigation into President Biden's family.

According to The Hill, Committee Chair James Comer has requested a transcribed interview with President Biden's physician, Kevin O'Connor, raising concerns about the independence of his medical assessments.

James Comer, Chair of the House Oversight Committee, is focusing on President Biden’s physician as part of an ongoing investigation into the President's family. Comer has requested that Dr. Kevin O’Connor provide a transcribed interview to address concerns over the independence of his medical evaluations of President Biden.

This request forms part of a broader inquiry into potential influences on O’Connor’s professional assessments due to his private business connections with the Biden family.

Concerns Over Medical Assessment Independence

In a letter to O’Connor, Comer expressed his worries that O’Connor’s medical judgments might have been swayed by his business dealings with the Biden family. According to a Washington Post article, O’Connor has never recommended President Biden undergo a cognitive test, a point Comer highlighted in his communication. Comer’s letter also referenced Biden’s debate performance against former President Trump on June 27, which he described as concerning.

Comer stated that Americans were questioning Biden’s ability to lead the country and referenced O’Connor’s February medical assessment, which declared Biden, at 81 years old, fit to execute the duties of the Presidency. Biden, on his part, has pushed back against these concerns, asserting that he remains the best candidate to contest former President Trump in any upcoming election.

Broader GOP Investigation Involving Comer

Comer’s request for an interview with O’Connor aligns with a broader investigation led by the GOP, which includes an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Although this inquiry has yet to uncover solid evidence linking Biden to his son’s foreign business dealings or any family corruption, the investigation continues.

Comer’s letter also seeks to understand O’Connor’s independence more comprehensively, requesting documents related to Americore Health and James Biden, the President’s brother. A transcript and a Politico report revealed that James Biden had sought O’Connor’s help in 2017 concerning his work with Americore. Comer has asked O’Connor to contact his staff by July 14 to schedule the transcribed interview to discuss these matters further.

White House Response and Criticism

White House spokesperson Ian Sams dismissed Comer’s letter, criticizing it as another attempt by extreme House Republicans to push discredited conspiracy theories. Sams referred to a Washington Post piece that traced many issues within the White House Medical Unit back to Rep. Ronny Jackson, who served under the Trump administration. He suggested that House Republicans should start their investigation with Jackson instead.

Comer’s letter to O’Connor included a pointed remark about the confusion surrounding Biden’s ability to perform his presidential duties, citing mixed messages from the White House.

You have repeatedly refused most interview requests from the media, and the Committee now turns to you to provide answers regarding your independence because of the mixed and confused messaging coming from the White House regarding the President’s ability to perform his job.

Comer also emphasized the need for a clear understanding of whether O’Connor can provide accurate and independent reviews of President Biden’s fitness to serve.

Conclusion and Next Steps

James Comer’s request for a transcribed interview with President Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, marks a critical development in the House Oversight Committee's investigation into the Biden family. Concerns about the independence of O’Connor’s medical assessments and potential influences from his private business dealings with the Biden family are at the forefront of this inquiry. The White House has dismissed these concerns, labeling them as unfounded conspiracy theories. However, the investigation continues, with significant implications for both President Biden’s current term and his potential re-election campaign.
